Guys, Try this.
It worked for me.

Hello, I am inquiring about an issue I can't seem to solve (without turning HDR off all-together, which defeats the purpose of having it even be an option in Windows 11)
In recordings (primarily using OBS) and in screenshots (with snip and sketch) everything appears extremely over-exposed / bright with HDR enabled. This is a big problem for me as I actually, well, want to use the OS normally. I record lots of clips and take many screenshots and I've finally gotten fed up of it and am now looking for a solution. Any help appreciated, thanks
(snip and sketch has since stopped doing it, however it likes to do it randomly now. commonly happens in fullscreen programs and also my web browser for some reason)

Is fixing this SO DAMN HARD?
I wonder how many years will take for MS to fix a basic function.
This is dismissive and unhelpful. Additionally, it isn't a solution. It is a Band-Aid that only works in some scenarios.
I tested this "solution" and I discovered that changing the gamma setting to 1.5 and reducing the SDR slider all the way down resolves the issue with the snipping tool, but it shifts the inverse problem into HDR games. For example, this is what Overwatch 2 looks like with gamma 1.5 and SDR slider all the way down with HDR on:
If I set the gamma back to 1, my game goes back to normal but i'm unable to take screenshots of it because it shifts the problem back to the OS and SDR being out of whack.
This is an OS issue that Microsoft needs to address.
