Final Edit: I'm updating this thread for future users. The problem is solved! Nvidia have released a new driver that fixes the issue. It's been in use for over 10 days as of time of writing and all reports are that the XPS 15 9560 is stable again.

Thank you to everyone who came hear and contributed their voice into the mix, and thank you Nvidia Manuel for hearing us and providing updates. I'll leave the workarounds up and in the post just in case the problem arises again in the future.

Original post below:

My laptop (Dell xps 15 9560 windows 10 21H2) has been repeatedly BSODing. It was doing this about 3-4 weeks ago. I made a post here, spoke to someone and implemented their fix and thought I was done as everything returned to normal. Yet the problem persists as of the most recent windows update.

Things I have done:

Completely uninstalled and reinstalled all graphics drivers from manufacturers with a clean install using DDU in safe mode

Rolled back the most recent windows update

Installed all the updates from Dell support

Attempted to repair files with the sfc /scannow command

Reinstalled DirectX

Cried a little bit

As of about an hour ago I'm still having the same blue screen fatal error. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Liam

Edit 1: Thought it best to post this here so it's on every page for new comers. Members of this thread with 9560s suffering constant BSODs have found that disabling the GTX1050 graphics card in the device manager results in system stability. Yes, this is not an acceptable long term solution, we didn't buy these machines to have them hamstrung like this. But equally this does completely fix the BSOD issue. This is a temporary band-aid fix until a real solution presents itself.

Band Aid Method:

  1. Press windows key + x
  2. Select device manager from list
  3. Navigate to Display Adapters and double click
  4. Locate NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 from the drop down options
  5. Right click on the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 and select Disable device
  6. Bingo. You did it.

Your 9560 is now stable for office use, internet browsing, and lite graphic design work. I've been using Illustrator with a very minor performance hit.

One user has noted that you can fire up your system with the GTX1050 disabled, reenable it, and perform graphics heavy tasks with it as long as you disable the GTX1050 before the machine goes into sleep mode or restarts, etc, then everything remains stable. It's a pain in the ****, but for some of you with more demanding tasks that are on a deadline it might work in a pinch.

Edit 2: Some members of this thread have had success rolling their Nvidia drivers back to version 27.21.14.6109. This appears to stop the BSOD issue while keeping the gtx1050 active and stable. This can be found on Dell's website with a little searching. Anyone using this method should be aware that drivers are updated for a reason. Utilizing this method could leave your system open to security threats, etc. In my opinion this is still only a band-aid fix.

Hello everyone. I wanted to share possibly the last update. Next week we will be releasing a new Game Ready Driver which will include a fix for this issue. As I stated in the past, this was resolved by reproducing a crash on a different Dell notebook that produced a crash dump file with the same signature as that shared by users to me in this thread and coming up with a fix for that. So while we were not able to 100% confirm the fix since we do not have a Dell XPS 9560 in our labs, I would recommend users give the next driver update a try and then share your feedback. Thank you all for your help and your patience.

Good luck. I've tried old and new NVidia drivers, and old and new Dell "official" drivers with no luck.

It seems the most luck has been with re-installing Windows. This implies a Windows update a few months ago.

I have Dell 9560, Windows 10, Nvidia 1050, and of course the Intel video. I posted a dump log file. We haven't heard back from Manuel yet.

I have a Dell 9650 windows 10, Nvidia 1050, and Intel graphics and am suffering from the same pain! The 4.5 years old laptop is not upgradeable to Windows 11! Microsoft does not like it! Intel and Nvidia are suffering due to a sharp drop in new PC sales! We have seen the reluctance from Nvidia to address this issue promptly as 1050 is an old soul and they are not really interested, with no financial incentive. I have no intention to waste anymore more time on this and can use the laptop with Intel Graphic only! Ideally, these companies want all who are affected by this BUG to buy Windows 11 PCs! I will buy one during the Black Friday Sales and donate my 9650 whether or not Nvidia addresses it since the writing is on the wall! Peace out!

Hi Manuel, me and many others agree on Mike93. I do not know if this adds anything useful for you, but even though I am getting the bugcheck "video dxgkrnl fatal error" every day, it seems very random taking place. Got it a minute ago reading here without doing something myself. It happens in harmless situations with a few apps open even more often as in situations with a lot of apps open and many activity in different apps. I do not use any gaming apps but I am using trader workstation (TWS) and similar apps and websites.

Looking into the event log, there is a pattern of events following each other when it happens:

    Image Image

I am willing to provide more information any time.

I am hoping that also some lawyers have the problem as I do not see why a lot of people with the same problem should buy new hardware versus Dell and providers of graphic cards should solve this problem that I also encounter since a few months only.

    Kind regards

    Hey everyone

I had the exact same problem as everyone else here. Everyday I was getting this BSoD with the same error message as you all. Sometimes multiple times per day for months. It seems I managed to fix it, at least I haven't received a BSoD for a week now. So hopefully trying this will fix it for you:

Enable “Debug Mode” from “NVIDIA Control Panel” it's located in the “Help” Tool Bar dropdown. Debug mode reverts any changes on GPU settings that could delay the GPU processing, Debug mode can be disabled to get back the settings made.

I enabled Debug Mode and then after 2 hours I turned Debug mode off again, that's all I did and now I am currently not getting any BSoD. This was the only thing I did to fix it so I hope it works for you too. I'll post back if I receive anymore BSoD but so far so good.

    Kind regards,
