Hello everyone. I wanted to share possibly the last update. Next week we will be releasing a new Game Ready Driver which will include a fix for this issue. As I stated in the past, this was resolved by reproducing a crash on a different Dell notebook that produced a crash dump file with the same signature as that shared by users to me in this thread and coming up with a fix for that. So while we were not able to 100% confirm the fix since we do not have a Dell XPS 9560 in our labs, I would recommend users give the next driver update a try and then share your feedback. Thank you all for your help and your patience.
Continued BSOD video dxgkrnl fatal error Windows 10 dell XPS laptop
Final Edit: I'm updating this thread for future users. The problem is solved! Nvidia have released a new driver that fixes the issue. It's been in use for over 10 days as of time of writing and all reports are that the XPS 15 9560 is stable again.
Thank you to everyone who came hear and contributed their voice into the mix, and thank you Nvidia Manuel for hearing us and providing updates. I'll leave the workarounds up and in the post just in case the problem arises again in the future.
Original post below:
My laptop (Dell xps 15 9560 windows 10 21H2) has been repeatedly BSODing. It was doing this about 3-4 weeks ago. I made a post here, spoke to someone and implemented their fix and thought I was done as everything returned to normal. Yet the problem persists as of the most recent windows update.
Things I have done:
Completely uninstalled and reinstalled all graphics drivers from manufacturers with a clean install using DDU in safe mode
Rolled back the most recent windows update
Installed all the updates from Dell support
Attempted to repair files with the sfc /scannow command
Reinstalled DirectX
Cried a little bit
As of about an hour ago I'm still having the same blue screen fatal error. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Liam
Edit 1: Thought it best to post this here so it's on every page for new comers. Members of this thread with 9560s suffering constant BSODs have found that disabling the GTX1050 graphics card in the device manager results in system stability. Yes, this is not an acceptable long term solution, we didn't buy these machines to have them hamstrung like this. But equally this does completely fix the BSOD issue. This is a temporary band-aid fix until a real solution presents itself.
Band Aid Method:
- Press windows key + x
- Select device manager from list
- Navigate to Display Adapters and double click
- Locate NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 from the drop down options
- Right click on the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 and select Disable device
- Bingo. You did it.
Your 9560 is now stable for office use, internet browsing, and lite graphic design work. I've been using Illustrator with a very minor performance hit.
One user has noted that you can fire up your system with the GTX1050 disabled, reenable it, and perform graphics heavy tasks with it as long as you disable the GTX1050 before the machine goes into sleep mode or restarts, etc, then everything remains stable. It's a pain in the ****, but for some of you with more demanding tasks that are on a deadline it might work in a pinch.
Edit 2: Some members of this thread have had success rolling their Nvidia drivers back to version 27.21.14.6109. This appears to stop the BSOD issue while keeping the gtx1050 active and stable. This can be found on Dell's website with a little searching. Anyone using this method should be aware that drivers are updated for a reason. Utilizing this method could leave your system open to security threats, etc. In my opinion this is still only a band-aid fix.

2022-08-23T18:05:41+00:00 Here is what I think is the stack trace from WinDbg of the BSOD. I am not 100% sure of this. Something relating to "Device Power" where I assume this has something to do with DirectX???? So, looking at this stack, and guess, it appears that there is a worker thread calling WaitForSingleObject that causes it to wait for something. Appears that it has something to do with power. This is a little suspicious because in one of my earlier posts I reported that I got in this state (not this stack trace) where Photoshop claimed that the 1050 was "gone", that is, my GPU was the Intel HD! Does this have something to do with sleep???
I should mention that I have a nice external Adobe RGB monitor that I use sometimes, although the BSOD's are occurring with either the external monitor, or the laptop's monitor.

2022-08-23T13:10:47+00:00 Exactly what happened here. The 9560 was rock solid for years until June, then 1 or 2 BSODs a day. You see, we are in a brave new world where we let Microsoft and Dell take control of our PCs and update constantly behind our backs. Then when a problem occurs, we have no idea where it came from. In the old days, you would update manually every couple of months, and in a case like this, where you go from rock solid to daily BSODs, you would immediately know it was that last Microsoft or Dell or NVidia update that did it, because YOU did the update. Maybe it's time to go manual on all updates. Hope Manuel finds the problem. This has gotten so bad I'm facing spending $3000 for a new laptop. I was actually thinking since I'm faced with throwing this 9560 in the landfill that I might as well donate it to Manuel, sheesh.....

2022-08-22T22:54:37+00:00 Hi Howard,
I'm with you on this. I had my first real problems with dxgkrnl fatal error back in mid April, directly after a windows update, and after a few days of hair pulling made this post on the windows forums:
The suggested fixes I received there gave me a few weeks grace before it came back with a vengeance and I created the post we've all been commenting on here for coming up to 4 months now.
To answer your question, there are similar posts over on the Dell forums but last time I checked in Dell, and for that matter Microsoft, have been hilariously absent from the conversation. I'd completely given up hope of anything being done until Manuel turned up. Hopefully this gets resolved.

2022-08-22T21:26:41+00:00 Manuel - This is great news. Thanks for coming back to us.
I'm based in the UK, If it helps, if there is a place I can take my laptop with the problem to help in the investigation, happy to donate!
Crazy suggestion, but I want to get this sorted asap.
My money is on a Windows update from back in April/May time, possibly early June. My machine was rock solid up to that point - had not had a BSOD in at least 2 years.. Then suddenly every other day. Only this model of laptop seems to have the problem, the common factor might be the other graphics card - the Intel Graphics 630 that is common on this XPS 15 9560. And how they co-exist and switch? I don't know - I'm clutching at straws - but will happily offer my duff DELL XPS 9560 to you guys if it helps investigate the problem. I have quite a few dump files when the BSOD occurred so can send you a few over if you let me know where to send etc..
Where is DELL in all of this? :-( Good on NVIDIA for trying to help here..
Howard.
