Final Edit: I'm updating this thread for future users. The problem is solved! Nvidia have released a new driver that fixes the issue. It's been in use for over 10 days as of time of writing and all reports are that the XPS 15 9560 is stable again.

Thank you to everyone who came hear and contributed their voice into the mix, and thank you Nvidia Manuel for hearing us and providing updates. I'll leave the workarounds up and in the post just in case the problem arises again in the future.

Original post below:

My laptop (Dell xps 15 9560 windows 10 21H2) has been repeatedly BSODing. It was doing this about 3-4 weeks ago. I made a post here, spoke to someone and implemented their fix and thought I was done as everything returned to normal. Yet the problem persists as of the most recent windows update.

Things I have done:

Completely uninstalled and reinstalled all graphics drivers from manufacturers with a clean install using DDU in safe mode

Rolled back the most recent windows update

Installed all the updates from Dell support

Attempted to repair files with the sfc /scannow command

Reinstalled DirectX

Cried a little bit

As of about an hour ago I'm still having the same blue screen fatal error. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Liam

Edit 1: Thought it best to post this here so it's on every page for new comers. Members of this thread with 9560s suffering constant BSODs have found that disabling the GTX1050 graphics card in the device manager results in system stability. Yes, this is not an acceptable long term solution, we didn't buy these machines to have them hamstrung like this. But equally this does completely fix the BSOD issue. This is a temporary band-aid fix until a real solution presents itself.

Band Aid Method:

  1. Press windows key + x
  2. Select device manager from list
  3. Navigate to Display Adapters and double click
  4. Locate NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 from the drop down options
  5. Right click on the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 and select Disable device
  6. Bingo. You did it.

Your 9560 is now stable for office use, internet browsing, and lite graphic design work. I've been using Illustrator with a very minor performance hit.

One user has noted that you can fire up your system with the GTX1050 disabled, reenable it, and perform graphics heavy tasks with it as long as you disable the GTX1050 before the machine goes into sleep mode or restarts, etc, then everything remains stable. It's a pain in the ****, but for some of you with more demanding tasks that are on a deadline it might work in a pinch.

Edit 2: Some members of this thread have had success rolling their Nvidia drivers back to version 27.21.14.6109. This appears to stop the BSOD issue while keeping the gtx1050 active and stable. This can be found on Dell's website with a little searching. Anyone using this method should be aware that drivers are updated for a reason. Utilizing this method could leave your system open to security threats, etc. In my opinion this is still only a band-aid fix.

Hello everyone. I wanted to share possibly the last update. Next week we will be releasing a new Game Ready Driver which will include a fix for this issue. As I stated in the past, this was resolved by reproducing a crash on a different Dell notebook that produced a crash dump file with the same signature as that shared by users to me in this thread and coming up with a fix for that. So while we were not able to 100% confirm the fix since we do not have a Dell XPS 9560 in our labs, I would recommend users give the next driver update a try and then share your feedback. Thank you all for your help and your patience.

Decided to chime in, even though I've been watching this thread since July for therapeutic reasons. :D

Since no one here has found an official, sustainable solution, it makes sense to increase the weight of the problem. I know two other people near me with exactly the same machine (mostly video editors or photographers) who have the same issue and are reading, but not posting their own questions.

So just to reiterate what seems obvious to most of the people in this thread: Dell XPS15 with Intel 630 (with the recommened Dell drivers) + Nvidia GTX 1050 = VIDEO DXGKRNL FATAL ERROR on average once or twice a day, especially if you put the laptop to sleep or shut it down every once in a while.

It can occur at the most random moments, like browsing on Chrome, writing an email in Outlook, right after having finished exporting a video on Premiere Pro etc.

I had a few weeks without incidents after following Diego's driver advice, but suffered performance issues (lots of fan activity, probably due to older drivers). It was OK, though. Not ideal, but OK.

The other day, I unwittingly clicked "Restart and update" to install the newest Windows Update. I hadn't disabled updating drivers, so I'm guessing something changed - less huff and puff and better performance, but 1-2 BSODs a day ever since. Time to try to roll back drivers again.

NVIDIA, Dell, Microsoft, please help. This seems very spread out geographically, but affecting a very specific subset. I'll send debug info to NVIDIA, as well.

Diego AROSIO driver recommendations (posted on September 6) are still working great for me. No BSOD for several days now.

No need to reinstall Windows, just install these 2 drivers from Dells website:

    Intel(R) HD Graphics 630 - drivers: 27.20.100.9664

    Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 - drivers: 26.21.14.4270

The Intel HD driver and Nvidia drivers that Diego recommends are here for the XPS 9560:

    Support for XPS 15 9560 | Drivers & Downloads | Dell US

For the nVidia drivers, you need to click on "older versions"

    Good afternoon dear friends!

I encountered a blue screen problem VIDEO DXGKRNL FATAL ERROR on my DELL XPS 15 9560 at the end of June 2022, after I updated the NVIDIA graphics card drivers.

I tried absolutely everything: I reinstalled windows, installed absolutely all the drivers recommended by Support Assist, but nothing helped.

The blue screen appeared after the video card was running for a long time and after the Epic Games program was turned on. I put the laptop to sleep and left. Upon waking the laptop, Epic gave me the same "Unsuported Graphics Card" error popup.

Also, the error could be after starting and setting the NVIDIA control panel.

My anger knew no bounds, because the computer could show a blue screen at any time and all unsaved files would disappear forever. Since I am currently writing my bachelor's thesis, this development of events does not suit me at all. I know that this problem is fixed by turning off the video card, but you must admit that then the computer for 2000 dollars will turn into something inferior and we all do not deserve such an unfair treatment.

After two weeks of constant attempts at witchcraft, dancing with tambourines and using black magic, I (in my humble opinion) seem to have found a solution to this problem, at least until NVIDIA pays attention to this error and releases a new graphics card driver update.

    OPTION OF MY SOLUTION:

Everything is much simple friends, you need to uninstall the graphics driver for the NVIDIA video card through the control panel, uninstall the GeForce Experience program and install the graphics driver version 461.92. I downloaded it from this link https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/171727/en-us/ . For the past 5 days I have been fully using my laptop and thank God I have never had a blue screen error. So far I have not noticed any failures in the laptop.

Perhaps my advice will be useful to you!

    All the best

    Oleksandr Sokolov

Yeah, I don't know if I'm happy or sad to hear it's not just me with all this. And as far as the the update theory goes, it's way too much of a coincidence that a number of us are suddenly experiencing the same problem that isn't responding to the same fixes. I was starting to think it was a hardware problem and my system was toast.

Where else online is this being discussed? Have you found many others with the same problems?
