Many persistent errors in Event Viewer after Windows 11 build 22598.ni_release.220408-1503: "Autopilot.dll wil error was reported"

I used to be part of the the Windows 11 Insider Beta channel. After updating to build 22598.ni_release.220408-1503 I began to see the same error in Event Viewer extremely frequently:

The errors are all the same and read as follows:

Autopilot.dll WIL error was reported.

HRESULT: 0x80070491

File: onecoreuap\admin\moderndeployment\autopilot\dll\dllmain.cpp, line 128

Message: NULL

I have never used any program called Autopilot or Modern Deployment. After seeing this problem I immediately left the insider program and am now queued for enrollment. However no new Windows update has happened and these errors persist. How do I prevent these errors?

    Good day everyone,

I had this problem to the point where more than half of the errors in my Event Viewer were about this issue. Since I upgraded my PC from 10 to 11 I wanted to do a fresh install of Windows. I purchased a new SSD for my PC and did a fresh install of Windows 11 and now I do not have the problem. I did the re-install of Windows on May 31, 2023 and there is not one error due to the Autopilot.dll. I know re-installing Windows is a pain but it did work. I would hope that Microsoft would provide a fix for this. If the error comes back I do not want to do a fresh install again.

I was poking about last night regarding this annoyance and although I don't have any real detail to explain, I'm curious....Does everyone here have Visual Studio installed?

    1. No Visual Studio but VS Code, which could be close enough
    2. I have logged my computer into my work at one point but it is not currently connected though 'Work or School'
    3. The device is not managed through my work, I am an admin there and manage the inventory.
    4. I do run Teams via a Work account. System Specs:
    • OS Ver: Win 11 - 10.0.22621.1778
    • Threadripper 2950 on an Asus X399-E using 1206 bios. ( Waiting for 3rd party validation as the bios was released in the middle of all the other Bios 'changes' made for the Ryzen 7000 chips. )
    • Nvidia RTX 2080

Hello Microsoft - are you there? Please have the common decency to post to this thread, how far you have got in solving this issue which appears to be of you own making. As there has been NO acknowledgement from yourselves, either you are not going thru' community posts, or, more likely, you could not care less.

Now 13 months since first reported in this thread.

This problem has made my computer unusable. I'm having problems with the Taskbar, Outlook, browser tabs. All sorts of stuff just doesn't work.

I'm downgrading to Windows 10--the only real solution I can see.

I am running W11 pro - 2H2 - and started to see this issue a couple of weeks ago when - or so I assume - 2H2 was installed. Now the system restarts every night (The previous system shutdown at 2:56:33 AM on ‎6/‎5/‎2023 was unexpected.) and does so in such a way that some running jobs (e.g. Acronis backups) hang until I present myself to the laptop, it recognises me and starts up. I assume that the system is waiting to log onto my Microsft account.

I know see continuous events telling me of errors with the BonjourService, Microsoft-Windows-ModernDeployment-Diagnostics-Provider, Printers (my only printer is local), etc, etc, etc.

The system is now so busy alerting - it is probably adversly impacting the user-experiance. I will shortly contact Microdost but - if the other responses are anything to go by - I doubt anything will come of it.
