Windows 11 is keep installing the wrong AMD driver

There's a big difference between using an assortment of different branded components to build a home assembled PC (something I've done myself too) and having a PC/Laptop which is entirely built by one OEM using all their parts that they provide.

They expect you to use the drivers that they provide. In my case it's a Dell branded laptop and interestingly when I install the Dell OEM Version Radeon drivers, Windows Update doesn't attempt to overwrite those with its own older drivers, only the AMD website provided drivers get overwritten. If I put the OEM provided drivers back, Windows Update doesn't try to overwrite those ones so I don't see how this can be entirely a Microsoft generated problem - I think they're doing what the OEMs (and to a big degree their paymasters) demand of them. Although Windows Update is a Microsoft creation, the big OEMs have a say & it's not as black and white as being entirely Microsoft's choosing what drivers to overwrite.

Amen @DIGITAL.ONE TBH I thinks this BS has been around since windows 8 I would like to know why it's still here in 2023 11 years later and everyone is doing all the supposed fix's and it still dont fix the prblem. **** is really going on? Windows is doing **** that we don't even know about. We need to get ahead of this. Windows CAN NOT Take control of MY PC That I paid for with my own money. Alot of people don't know it yet but Microsoft is trying to make windows Subcription based like office365 and oter MIcrosoft products. Before we know it we will be asking big tech if we can go to the grocery store and can I got to the club or out to eat or any thing. the world will all be puppets in a Tech world. I will be gone by then thank god. Be some cyberpunk **** LOL.

This is messed up and Microsoft has to be doing this on purpose since it's ben an ongoing issue since Beta Win 11. I'm not pointing fingers of collusion or anything but I find it interesting that Microsoft has no answer for this, two years into Win 11. Yet, Intel and Nvidia continue to be trouble free.

You're correct that it is not straight forward, but I am the OEM. I build my own computers from components since the 1980s. I've never had any problems with drivers. You see, my motherboard is an ASUS and the Radeon component is fully compatible with the ASUS motherboard. The driver for the Radeon has always been the originally installed AMD driver. It has always done its own update checks and updated without intrusion by Microsoft.

However, as a result of some Microsoft update, the OS manufacturer (guess who) began deleting the AMD drivers (yes, deleting them), and installing its own driver. It tells you that the Microsoft driver is all you need. It isn't. I had to go through a mammoth procedure with the help of AMD support to clean out all the Microsoft junk that wasn't working. I also had to change OS policies to allow the AMD driver to be installed, and change setting on the OS to prevent it from doing automatic updates of AMD Radeon software.

Sorry, but that is ALL on Microsoft. Just like they forever kept resetting my computer to shove Edge down my throat. Just like they blocked setting Google maps as the default maps handler. There are a ton of apps I have set as my default preferences. Unfortunately, they are not Microsoft. MS has removed perfectly good competitive 3d party applications from its app store. They've made it super difficult to select a non-MS app to handle a file from the Right Click (Open with) menu.

Any objective examination by an impartial party will confirm that Microsoft is illegally exercising its monopoly power in a highly anti-competitive manner. No doubt they filled some big lobby pockets to disable the enforcement of anti-trust laws. After their campaign to destroy Netscape and replace it with their inferior Internet Explorer, tightly bundling it with their OS, they lost the lawsuit. They were violating anti-trust laws. They are now as well, but they paved the way with legislation and party bribes. I am of the educated legal experience opinion that those laws should be again enforced and the MS anti-competitive monopoly should be stopped.

#1. This does not work. The first opportunity Windows Update gets to install these always broken AMD drivers, it will install them. The only fix is to not allow Windows to update anything at all. Whatever these AMD drivers are that Microsoft insists that we have will result in some games telling you that you do not meet their minimum requirements to run them and AMD Adrenaline from running at all because your drivers are not compatible. If AMDs own software can't run on whatever it is that you are installing, that should tell you everything you need to know.

#2. This only works this time IF you have not already installed the broken driver. The next available version will automatically get installed.

#3. Everyone should have this without need a group policy to protect themselves from this nonsense.

Microsoft needs to worry about Windows and Microsoft's own software and let me worry about AMD and everything else on my computer.

Exactly, no offense to the people of Microsoft replying here, because they're doing their best. But this is just stupid, yesterday I installed the newest AMD drivers of earlier this month, today I can't open AMD Adrenaline because my current drivers aren't compatible. Turns out Microsoft had installed Drivers of 2020 (3 years ago at the time of writing) and the only way to fix it is to tell Windows everytime/-day manually to install the previous version of it.

FYI: I'm still using Windows 10 and having this exact issue
