Windows 11 is keep installing the wrong AMD driver

Option 1 does nothing for me. I have download drivers on OFF . Yet after 12 tries windows still reinstalls the old versions.

Option 2. DO NOT USE option 2 from Major Geeks. It has a virus that will cause problems to your system and on top of that it does not work at all. I had to do a whole other journey just to remove the bugged pop ups after the virus was removed.

Option 3. I do not have windows pro I have basic windows so I cannot use it. Microsoft should stop auto updating AMD drivers all together OR they should make the AMD driver application part of windows for all computers that use AMD hardware. Similar to how they already have with the drivers of NVIDIA graphics cards . It is already December and new year will be upon us. They should fix this Issue immidiately.

I think the microsoft update hider worked for me too. Lets hope with the next update I will not have to do anything and I will be free from this continuous pain.

That is so weird I don't know what is going on now because I just updated windows on my laptop and it didn't mess with the driver now.

You're absolutely right. Microsoft needs to stop these nonsense cram-down-your-throat changes without giving you the option to refuse them. We're forced to waste enormous time and energy to undo their nanny ****. They have to stop their monopoly BS.

Its not as straight forward as laying all the blame at Microsofts feet because (at least in my case) the laptop manufacturer (known as an OEM) has their own 'customised' graphics drivers for my laptop. They do NOT want complaints about their hardware not working properly because end users are installing the default Radeon drivers which don't have those same customisation tweaks that the OEM gives them.

As one example I did find a previous Radeon driver (a few months back now) actually caused the laptop to reboot - it seemed as if it was directing the gpu to draw more current than the hardware was designed to give it on this portable device. Newer Radeon drivers haven't had this problem but the OEM provided drivers never had it in the first place.

Going forward, if installing the latest generic AMD website sourced Radeon drivers can't be made to come with a (more obvious) disclaimer on installation that on experiencing any graphics related faults, users should revert to OEM provided drivers and test again, Microsofts Windows Update should AT LEAST install the very latest OEM provided driver. I've had it 'update' my one week old 2022 AMD website sourced Radeon driver with not the few months older (also 2022) OEM provided Radeon driver but one from 2021. This stopped two games from running. I think a key thing is having OEM provided drivers that are very recent and support new/updated games. Also Microsoft needs to be razor sharp with Windows 'Update' to not revert beyond the latest OEM drivers and if they can't do this, make such Windows Updates 'tick box optional'.

It does come across as heavy handed and a PR disaster when Windows Update forces you into an older driver that breaks things and stops games from running when the newest AMD website sourced driver had them running perfectly.
