Why did Windows 11 suddenly become slow?

I received notification from Windows a few months ago and upgraded to Windows 11. It was fast and smooth in the beginning, but in the last two-three weeks, it has become significantly slow. It annoys me a lot, simply file browsing has been painful. It takes forever to open a web site on Chrome. This never was the case before, my laptop used to be really fast. I am suspicious that this is because of recent Windows 11 updates. I just want to go back Windows 10 and have my laptop speed back.

Another issue in Windows 11 that annoys me a lot is the tabs in taskbar. They frequently disappear. For instance, if I have 5 apps open, suddenly all the icons in taskbar disappear and I have to restart file explorer to fix it.

How do I fix all these permanently, or go back to Windows 10?

    Exactly, I have a powerful windows machine but windows 11 has made it difficult to use. random BSOD and errors, often slows down for no reason.

    Bought a mac and it is flying through everything. Even non-native apps run smoother.

    I think I can confirm this helps. I was using Edge until I was forced into Win 11. About the same time, one of the sites I used started putting up so many ads that I couldn't see the content. I couldn't use an ad blocker extension because the site would block page viewing.

    I changed over to Brave, which, like Chrome and Edge, is also a Chromium browser, but basically eliminates ads without web sites being able to detect it. I highly recommend Brave. Yes, it's free.

    Since my forced WINDOWS11 install 2 months ago, my pc use has been beyond frustrating.

    Slow response, background overhead eating up runtime resources. Application response very slow, boot up takes >5 minutes, EDGE performance is terrible.... and on and on.

    All concurrent with WIN11 'update'!

    I am not alone.

    What testing was done prior release? Rhetorical, as apparently it was not adequate.

    I am gonna be forced to leave the Microsoft [frustrated] 'family'.

    Thanks for your post. I found a temporary solution just 2 days back, not fully solving, but partially. Disable MSEDGE in startup. Make any other browser your default one. While working in MSOffice apps, pause synching to Onedrive. After that resume synch when idle. When not in use, close MSOUTLOOK or use some other mail apps

    Won't help solve boot time delays. Won't fully solve slowness or NOT RESPONDING issues in MS apps fully. But at least it will enable reasonable productivity.

    markc_414 your post reminds me of that one TV show called Space Force. Everyone starts to curse when Microsoft pushes an update in the middle of an important operation. There is a short clip on YouTube you should look it up, it is fun. It will help you feel better knowing that you are not alone. Anyway, don't bother trying to speed up Win 11. Just go back to Win 10.

    Also, I usually pause updates for up to more than a month and tune the settings not to install anything automatically. Don't forget to manually enable, download and install updates at least once a month.
