Hi,

I am using the latest version of Windows 11 and I have found it out that the App & Browser Control is missing in the Windows Security. Although it is shown in settings but in the app its completely missing after the update. When I clicked it there is no response for it. Kindly check it in your system too and help me out. I am on my Windows 11 Beta version.

I recently did a clean Win 11 home 21H2 build 22000.856 install, and everything went well except for the windows security "action needed" notification. When I opened Win Security, nothing needed attention; however, I noticed the App and Browser Control section was missing. I typed in "App" in the Windows start menu, and the "App and Browser Control" section in system settings popped up. I clicked on it and turned on the "Reputation-based protection," and the "action needed" warning disappeared.

I had the exact same issue and following these steps and turning on "Reputation-based protection" immediately fixed the warning message. Now have a green tick and hover shows "Windows Security - No Actions Needed.".

Thanks for the information, this had been bugging me for weeks!

I bet you are still missing the App and Browser control from "View security dashboard", right? 😎

This is so stupid. Espacially the bug is not 100% appears. I did clean reinstall Win11 21H2 using the official media creation tool for two laptops. However only one got this problem. All the win version, defender version and all other updates are same but only one laptop got the issue. Although I received the 22H2 update, but I have no plan to update them. Looks the 22H2 has more problems.

All bugs are stupid, not just this one. 🀣🀣🀣🀣

It is a bug caused by the wrong updates for Windows security. Some PC got the wrong updates before MS put those updates on hold after they realized they messed up.

    You can check your

    C:\Windows\System32\SecurityHealth

folder in the failing machine and compare with the one that does not fail.

This is what I have on the 22H2 Build 22621. The 21H2 Build 22000.xxx should have a different update.

I'm still waiting fot MS to push a update to fix the problem for 21H2. However, seems half year passed, MS did not do anything, maybe they think everyone should get 22H2 then they just leave the bug with 21H2

MS never came back with a response to the FBH reports about the bug.

On my machines I had to fix the problem myself on both 21H2 and 22H2.

Windows Security Version 1.0.2109.22007-0 was good for 21H2, and 1.0.2207.22002-0 was good for 22H2 but was breaking 21H2. 🀣🀣🀣

There was also 1.0.2208.16003-0 and 1.0.2209.22001-0 which were downloaded by mistake and caused problems on both 21H2 and 22H2.

Those should be removed as well. Use "rmdir /s foldername" from a recovery cmd prompt to delete the bad folder(s) and the contents

You can fix the problem assuming you have the proper version for 21H2 or 22H2 still available.

Can you check what you have on the folder

    C:\Windows\System32\SecurityHealth ?

The problem can be fixed by removing the folder with the wrong version and reinstalling the correct one with the .appx contained in the correct one.

Also you will need to "del the SecurityHealthSetup.exe" that is in the same SecurityHealth folder, otherwise that may reinstall the wrong version after you fix it. πŸ€πŸ˜‰
