WIFI 6 (Mediatek MT7921) disconnects randomly

I just finished building a new pc and installed all the appropriate drivers and software. I have a WIFI 6 router which I have had for a while now and never had any issues with and the motherboard I am using is the ASUS TUF GAMING B550-PLUS WIFI II AM4 AMD B550 SATA 6Gb/s ATX AMD Motherboard. It utilizes the Mediatek MT7921 WIFI card.

The WIFI will randomly disconnect but it says its still connected. Oddly enough I can still load Google and Youtube but nothing else and even then that is intermittent and extremely slow.

Drivers: Ive tried updating, rolling back, deleting and fresh install. no dice

Settings: Ive tried disabling IPV6, Changing from AX to AC to N, etc, Disabled the Bluetooth since its the same adapter. no dice.

Ive even checked to see on another device if my pc is connected to my router while its in this disconnected state and it shows that its connected to my router but it will not connect properly to the internet. I have not had this issue with any other device on my network so I am to conclude that it is most likely to do with this new pc and this Mediatek WIFI Adapter.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Mike,

    I don't know about any links provided by others, but the one provided by me is fine... trust me! I'm kinda joking, but seriously, I uploaded the one I had to a file sharing website... it very well may be marked as suspicious because it's not a traditional website... I just didn't want to share information from my personal google drive in case someone were to be able to access my other stuff somehow. If you don't trust it, feel free to try to find it elsewhere. Anyways, give the driver a shot. Windows may say that you have the best driver already. In that case you will need to uninstall the current driver that you have and then have windows search for the driver that you download. It will be an inf file if I'm not mistaken. Once windows gets that running it will more than likely fix your issue as it has for so many others. I hope that helps you!

    Hi,

    I also have the same disconnect issue. I haven't tried switching the driver but I'll let folks know how that goes. I have two drivers to test - the MediaTek "Forced" that's been suggested and a MediaTek driver from Lenovo - even though I have an ASUS. I'm reasonably adept at changing drivers.

    I need internet so I got a USB WLAN device. I don't know how that will work since I'm also getting occasional connection from the MediaTek.

    There is a link in this thread to the "Forced" driver which Google Chrome has blocked from D/L as malicious. Be wary.

    I was about to loose my marbles by the time I tried your method.

    $3k brand new laptop, and Wi-Fi isn't working, truly looked like a fool in the boardroom in front of my colleagues.

    I found "MediaTek-FORCED-10x64-79xx_3.03.01.0508-drp" and used it on my Zephyrus G15. Since then no issues, it also used to take about 30 sec for the laptop to connect to the internet upon startup, but now its instant.

    Hi KojoGhana,

    I'm glad that it worked for you! Since changing the driver, I have had a few rare times when the internet has stopped working. When that happens, I run the windows troubleshooter for internet connection which restarts the device and that always does it. Anyways, I'm glad that it is working for you!

    Hi,

    I updated my driver as per your instructions, and so far so good! My connection has not been disconncted.

    This problem only started happening recently, I haven't made any changes to my setup/router/internet connection so it's strange that my driver needed to be changed, this seems to have worked nonetheless.
