No dice. I've given it the same grace period as any other driver I've tried installing, new and old alike, and it's started misbehaving again. It is definitely this driver. Even after I tried uninstalling the device (and selecting the option to delete all driver software on the PC), and then reinstalling that driver manually, the device manager said the driver couldn't be installed because of the code 10 error. I restarted the PC, and it automatically reinstalled that same driver again (I'm pretty sure it's the only driver for that device left on my PC at this point), and it's working again for now. But this is currently looking like exactly the same pattern of behavior as with other drivers I've tried. It starts off okay and gradually deteriorates over time. From what you've said here I feel like you may be experiencing that same issue and just don't know it yet.
Sorry it did not work for you. That is strange that the provided driver did not install for you. I assume that you have verified that the device is the Mediatek MT7921. I haven't heard of anyone else having that code 10 error. It is a very unusual problem to be sure. It is also possible that we are all experiencing similar but not exactly the same problem. The strange thing about it is that the wifi worked fine when I first got the PC before the problem appeared... but the hardware tests show that the device should be fine. This points towards a software/driver issue. Several people have mentioned that the problem appeared after a windows update. Since windows update also updates drivers, it very well may be related to a windows update or driver. I can confirm that I have done a complete format of the harddrive and a fresh install of windows directly from microsoft without any HP software or updates and the problem existed from day 1. So, this seems to indicate that the hardware has a problem with either the software or drivers provided through microsoft update.
You mentioned a deterioration of performance. I have seen this before as well. The interesting thing is that this was corrected by reinstalling the driver that I had recommended. One thing that I may not have mentioned is that I had run a system check which replaced at least one corrupt file (I don't remember how many). So, I do kind of wonder if the SSD in the device could have some kind of issue that is going under the radar. If I keep getting deterioration and corrupted files this may be a big part of the problem. However, it still doesn't explain the day 1 problems on the fresh installation. The deterioration problem also could be related to the non-stop updates from Microsoft which may be updating/changing the drivers and software. Anyways, those are my thoughts on it all. I'm no microsoft expert... just a guy trying to get his computer working. If I presently lived in the USA, I probably would have returned my computer but living internationally makes that a lot harder than normal.
