How can I turn off the sync function my Microsoft account from my windows 11 laptop?

I really want to un sync my windows 11 laptop from my desktop computer connected with the same Microsoft account. Every time I delete something on my laptop to free up space I don’t want it to be deleted from desktop. How do I change this? Please and thank you for your time.

    Hi, I cannot unsync my windows 11 laptop with my wifes windows 11. She keeps getting my startup tabs and it deletes hers. I dont have the option: open settings>accounts>sync my settings. How can it turn off syncing?

    The Subject here is how we can turn off sync, not nececery OneDrive itself. They may use that to store our settings, yet we still want a clean uninstall and not carry out old settings. We need a switch, which I think we had.. before

    That is eaxactly the problem. My laptop and main PC desktop keep ending up with the same shortcuts/folders etc.

    when you say, "look under windows backup", you're not being very clear because what I see is "help with windows backup"? and if this is what you mean, then there are 4 choices: 1.backing up your apps and preferences 2 fixing OneDrive sync problems. 3 syncing Microsoft edge favorites and 4 backing up and restore!!!?? So now, which of these am I supposed to be looking under? I really don't get it, there are people like me who ARE NOT tech savvy and when we reach out for help, it's like we only get the short version of the information and help that we are seeking, we need to be to directed with the exact and full wordings of what we need to look for because we fear making a WRONG choice and having something happen that will then create another problem for us!!!

    Turning sync off is one of two significant problems I have. As soon as I get some time (Hey! It could happen!), I'm starting to transition to Linux.

    Microsoft puts all this new cr** in their OS and makes it active by default; and only someone with an unlimited amount of either knowledge, intellect, or time can figure out how the hell to turn off what they don't want. Like many of you, I am hitting the limit of my patience. It takes me HOURS and HOURS to figure out how to do the simplest things that used to take me less than a minute to do. My work output has dropped so much that, if it weren't my own business, I would be fired.

    I've even had two "live" chat sessions with MS tech desk agents, and I still haven't been able to get the other of my two problems fixed.
