I recently got a new laptop and I'm not sure how windows 11 works. I noticed that my documents folder was just my OneDrive, which i don't want.
When i tried to redirect it to the main storage, i get:
I'm not sure how to get it to work.
I don't want to unlink my onedrive completely because i use it often to transfer files.

Hi. I'm Brian and I will do my best to help you.
Go into the Settings on OneDrive, select the Backup tab and uncheck Documents (and Desktop and Pictures if you wish) and those folders should get moved back to their position under C:\Users<youraccount>, unless you've manually created folders of the same name, which is not the correct approach.
Have you tried opening the file folder, right clicking on Desktop, selecting Properties then Location tab and clicking on restore defaults?
I did that and after rebooting there were dead symlinks for Onedrive in Documents, Pictures and Desktop that you can delete without having to reboot afterwards.

Depending on which Windows OS update, after UNLINKING the DOCUMENTS folder in File Explorer still points to the OneDrive Documents folder. Going into its properties, no longer provides a Location option.... Trying to pin the REAL Documents folder into Quick Access does not work. UNPINNING the OneDrive Documents folder does not work either. Setting File explorer back to default status does not work either. It used to work but now with the various OS updates, it no longer works that way....
I can confirm this problem. I have to deselect backup option and copy every files from onedrive back to local computer. Do not let onedrive back up your precious Documents folder or you will have a big issue later eg. when your onedrive storage is full , files wont be saved/sync anymore . I guess this is how MS force you to buy/upgrade onedrive storage !!! :)
Somehow Microsoft when they were doing an update, changed my setting to go to One Drive and not to Documents on my C drive. Upon further investing I found out what the location was changed from my scanner settings. Once I straighten that out, everything is working as it did before. Case closed.
