I recently got a new laptop and I'm not sure how windows 11 works. I noticed that my documents folder was just my OneDrive, which i don't want.

When i tried to redirect it to the main storage, i get:

I'm not sure how to get it to work.

I don't want to unlink my onedrive completely because i use it often to transfer files.

Hi. I'm Brian and I will do my best to help you.

Go into the Settings on OneDrive, select the Backup tab and uncheck Documents (and Desktop and Pictures if you wish) and those folders should get moved back to their position under C:\Users<youraccount>, unless you've manually created folders of the same name, which is not the correct approach.

Don't let them steal your HAM radio enthusiasm. They could do this to me as well as I have already done a few days worth of installs of daws and virtual instruments. They are grubby insects.

yes they are unbelievable thieves of my info. I was never given any option. This windows platform must be taken away from these insectoids that steal info with their online storage. And I am not able to stop them from syncing everything into that onedrive folder. If I delete the onedrive folder, it deletes also a documents and pictures folder in the user data that I want to use. Not crazy about the user name either 'heart'. There is nothing I can do about this they just keep changing things to steal data. I don't trust for one second anyone on the internet. There can be no routine of trust in this current world climate, and that is the big ruse they want to pretend there should be trust. THERE CAN BE NO TRUST!!! WHO WOULD WANT TO SAVE THEIR COMPUTER FILES ON THE INTERNET. I have expensive synth presets I make and save to my computer and I KNOW someone rich would steal them and use them on their synth and make music. IT'S JUST THAT EASY TO STEAL FOR THESE EXTREMELY RICH PEOPLE. Also connected music industry people would just make a phone call to the masters at MICROSOFT and badda bing make them songs with MY PRESETS. NO THANKS. I WAS NEVER GIVEN THE OPTION.

OneDrive installs with Windows, or you can install it if it's somehow been previously uninstalled. There aren't "about a dozen ways" it gets there.

When you install Windows with a MS account, OneDrive grabs the Desktop, Documents and Pictures folders and you can't simply move them where you want them.

    1. Open OneDrive using the system tray icon.
    2. Click the gear icon and choose Settings.
    3. Under "Sync and Backup" turn off everything you can find that can be turned off.
    4. Under Account, choose "Unlink this PC."
    5. Accept the warning.
    6. Click on the system tray icon and choose Quit OneDrive.

After unlinking the PC, you will find that Desktop, Documents, and Pictures are no longer shown as being inside the OneDrive folder. This is the key that unlocks the dungeon door...

The "Location" tab in the Desktop, Documents and Pictures folder properties will now function as expected, and you can move them to wherever you prefer. (I put the Documents and Pictures folders on separate drives from the system drive. How you arrange things is up to you.)

Once you have things the way you want them, restart the system.

Open OneDrive and relink the PC. OneDrive will now be its own folder, although you will find it has a "Docs_OneDrive" folder and a Pictures folder that will try very hard to be your friend, but

I figured it out after it was TOO LATE and windows had destroyed my links.

to be honest. I gave up.

my Windows 11 is messed up and OneDrive did it. so it's going to stay that way for another few years until I actually need to update.

Re-installing my HAM radio apps alone is a months worth of headaches and I have not even tried re-installing besides ham radio these days is filled with k00ks from the far right , so I'm done with that too for a while

I do have links to people on the web that show you how to make a ISO that is clean of a lot of these MS un-necessary junk. until then this TURKEY is done and cooked.

    thanks for replying
