Why is file explorer asking for a sign in?

File explorer keeps asking for a sign in but then tells me I can't log in with a personal log in and requires a business or education log in....

Going round in circles...

    this only hides the problem. It doesn't address the underlying issue. Why is it asking for work credentials on personal computers in the first place? Can someone please update with the solution to the root cause?

    Hi Chuck,

    it is just a nightmare but I was able to disable the login without unselecting the Office.com files. Check out my reply on Feb 21, 2023 (sorry, don't know how to link it to that response).

    Thanks, Eric. I searched for answers for this issue and found your response. Not only did it clear up the issue, but it cleared up my confusion. Now I know that it was trying to load files from office.com. So, the annoying "Please Sign In" button is gone AND I know why it was there in the first place. I appreciate you!

    You can remove it by going to File Explorer, you need to click on the (…) and select Options from the menu.

    In the Folder options window, you need to head over to Privacy section. Under this, you will see a option that reads “Show files from Office.com“, uncheck the same option.
