Why is file explorer asking for a sign in?

It's a fix to remove the SIGN IN pop-up. But I don't understand why Microsoft doesn't understand that I used to work for a company that I longer do and in spite of removing all the account data of that business account the same thing is there.

I am in the same boat. At some point, when opening a new program or app, I cannot continue using my regular Microsoft Account Admistrator Profile (am I overloading it?). I am instructed to sign in with a work or school account profile. Which I don't have. Next I try old profiles which never work (desperation). I am then instructed to open new account for purposes of a new profile. This occasionally works. Fast forwart a few days. The cycle starts over. My Microsoft Account sign in cannot be used and again comes the instructions to sign in with a work or school account profile which I still don't have. Profiles created from this last exercise in futility either have litteraly disappeared or are rejected because they are registered to "someone else" I will again be instructed to create a new.

This solution removes other histories which is not right.

Problem solved !

From Desktop right click Personalize option, go to accounts on left menu. In that accounts page page scroll down and click 'Work or School'. Then remove the unused work or school account from it. The sign in option of Explorer will also not get popped again even if you click office.com check box on privacy clicking three dots in the windows explorer.

If you uncheck "Show files from office.com" it excludes OneDrive files stored in the cloud from search results. That's a very important file listing for me. So while it removes the message, it also removes a highly relevant list of files.

I was only able to stop the problem at the root by doing item 4 (To disconnect your work account, go to Settings) from How to add a work or school account to Windows 10 or 11 | ZDNET . Nothing else really did the job as the account from my previous job still showed up on Settings > Accounts > Email & Accounts.
