Since last Windows Update "task host window is stopping background tasks windows 10" on 4 machines

unfortunately the troubleshooter for me did not yield any results, issue persists. I've opted to just let the computer sleep instead. Not a good workaround really. Microsoft probably will never address this and it will get resolved in another quarterly windows update just because the code itself changes.

I've worked through a good selection of the tips short of a registry hack (hides the problem, doesn't solve it).

Microsoft wil never acknowledge the problem, manufacturers don't, or they never be out of court defending consequential damage claims. One day the problem will disappear camouflaged as the MS equivalent of 'bug fixes' as much loved by app developers

The KB5016616 update updated the Servicing Stack to version 10.0.19041.1852. The Servicing Stack has to do with Windows Updates, so perhaps this is root of the issue. I read that once Servicing Stack updates are performed they cannot be removed. See here:

So even if you uninstall KB5016616, the issue may persist until Microsoft releases a new update that includes a fixed new version of the Servicing Stack.

I'm also having this issue and am waiting for Microsoft to fix it.

Quite - so even a wipe, reinstall and update would pick up the same error if done now.

Easy enough to live with it for the time being. Just another instance of testing the product on the paying customer.
