Since last Windows 10 automatic update done on 8 PCs (KB5016616, KB5012170 & KB890830) 4 PCs are now showing "task host window is stopping background tasks" on shutdown.

Does anyone know what caused this?

Thanks

We had the same problem. Setting the following registry keys fixed the problem for us:
    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDPSvc:Start" set to value 2
    and
    set "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDPUserSvc:Start" to value 2.

Hope this helps you too. Best regards

Please provide a link to an authorative source indicating this is a possible solution to the task host window issue

I did look at my registry. Those are current values in my registry. So either an update fixed to "proper" setting or this wasn't an issue on my system.

Regardless, my issue resolved after the last Defender update.
