Same issue on my PC started happening around 3 weeks ago.
I tried modifying the power plan settings as others mentioned doing so and ultimately disabled hibernate via the command prompt and the issue remains.
@microsoft Please fix it.

Since last Windows 10 automatic update done on 8 PCs (KB5016616, KB5012170 & KB890830) 4 PCs are now showing "task host window is stopping background tasks" on shutdown.
Does anyone know what caused this?
Thanks

Leave it alone. Mine and others were sorted 'automatically' around the time a Defender virus update patch was installed. Return any settings back to what you had before (optional)
What's the deal here? This goddamned thing is 'still' popping up at shutdown on my Win 10 PC.
So far no fix from Microsoft. I was hoping that the last update might fix it but it hasn't. I am still not sure Microsoft knows about this issue - hope they do!
