Since last Windows 10 automatic update done on 8 PCs (KB5016616, KB5012170 & KB890830) 4 PCs are now showing "task host window is stopping background tasks" on shutdown.

Does anyone know what caused this?

Thanks

This is likely a highly accurate assessment, Christopher.

I've had the same issue on my Acer Predator desktop. Tried all the fixes detailed above and the issue sometimes goes away for 2-3 sessions then returns. Really annoying.

It happens on my system and it states it is shutting the window is used to shutdown idle processes. I do know you can open the Task Manager and end the task for the Task Host Window. Once you do that, it will shutdown normally.

And it is not just during updates. I have not noticed it on my other machine so I will look and see if that utility is actually running.
