Windows 11 Cannot install update KB5016629

Have Windows 11 (upgrade from Win 10) - cannot install KB5016629 (and before it KB5015814) - tried all MS recommendations but still doesn't install. Have now hidden it using WUSHOWHIDE. My WINVER is currently showing Version 21H2 (OS Build 22000.739). When the update tries to install it goes up to 100%, reboots and then it says, "Something didn't go as planned. No need to worry - undoing changes. Please keep your computer on", then it takes about 10 minutes undoing all the changes and sets everything back to where it was - BUT when I re-boot again, it again tries to install the updates and does EXACTLY the same.

I have looked at MS sites and other windows-related sites (like https://howtofixwindows.com/windows-11-update-failed-to-install/…) I have followed all the instructions, even downloaded and installed the update manually (from the MS Update catalogue), it appears to install, gets to 100% and then I get EXACTLY the same error message. It's a bit concerning, as the same things happened with KB5015814 and I thought the cumulative update in KB5016629 would cover everything that I couldn't install with KG5015814, but as neither will install I am still left with an old build.

Looking at these forums and other general posts on the Internet and the MS Feedback forum, I know that I am not the only one having these problems

I've tried this 3 times even running Window Update troubleshooter to no avail. And along with Stephane_ 1972 I'm not reinstalling Windows 11 to

    get an update to work.

The repair update is NOT really reinstalling Windows. It's a REPAIR function. You keep all your settings and programs. It just reinstalls all the underlying parts of Windows that will fix anything that is missing or corrupted, etc. I really didn't want to go that far either but I figured a one time repair might be better than turning off .NET Frameworks or uninstalling Malwarebytes every time an update came along. This recommendation came straight from Microsoft who said they are working on the problem but who knows when that fix will occur. Then again, you can just wait for 22H2 and see if that will install.

I could also ask the question: What is the underlying factor that we all seem to have that is/was stopping these updates? That would be nice to know.

I can confirm that turning off MalwareBytes and .Net 3.5 worked for me. The update take a while, but it finished. I rebooted and then turned MalwareBytes and .Net 3.5 back on. Everything seems to be normal.

Do we need to turn on Net 35 after we finish this obnoxious work-around? Thanks for the help.
