Windows 11 Cannot install update KB5016629

Have Windows 11 (upgrade from Win 10) - cannot install KB5016629 (and before it KB5015814) - tried all MS recommendations but still doesn't install. Have now hidden it using WUSHOWHIDE. My WINVER is currently showing Version 21H2 (OS Build 22000.739). When the update tries to install it goes up to 100%, reboots and then it says, "Something didn't go as planned. No need to worry - undoing changes. Please keep your computer on", then it takes about 10 minutes undoing all the changes and sets everything back to where it was - BUT when I re-boot again, it again tries to install the updates and does EXACTLY the same.

I have looked at MS sites and other windows-related sites (like https://howtofixwindows.com/windows-11-update-failed-to-install/…) I have followed all the instructions, even downloaded and installed the update manually (from the MS Update catalogue), it appears to install, gets to 100% and then I get EXACTLY the same error message. It's a bit concerning, as the same things happened with KB5015814 and I thought the cumulative update in KB5016629 would cover everything that I couldn't install with KG5015814, but as neither will install I am still left with an old build.

Looking at these forums and other general posts on the Internet and the MS Feedback forum, I know that I am not the only one having these problems

I eventually did a repair install which actually kept all my programs and files etc. and sorted the problem out. Surprisingly it was easy, took around 40 minutes and actually worked. I have to say I was surprised but fair play to MS they have improved the experience. However there should not be a problem in the first place. I had tried all the suggestions on this and other fora and nothing else worked for me.

Worth a try if you are in the same position. I had back ups but didn't need them in the end.

I don't know why, but somehow mine fixed itself. I went to shut down for the evening yesterday and it said it was installing an update. This morning all was well when I booted. Maybe the MS servers were too bruisy. Well perhaps this is just a lesson in patience: something that I have not been able to perfect in my 74 years. My wife will attest to that.

I'm in the club too. Every one of their recommendations and "fixes" do not work. Spent 20 minutes on Command Prompt, kaput. They need to do something on their end, not us.

I have exactly same problem, uninstalled malwarebytes, whatever... and when trying to disable net framework I am getting same error code as for update. IDGAF anymore, hope next updates will work. Using windows 11 feels like being part of alpha testing. :D
