A workaround I have found is to temporarily change the refresh rate of the display and then revert to its earlier rate.
This takes only a few seconds:
- When you see your taskbar has no icons, for example after waking from sleep, then right-click it or click the desktop.
- From the pop-up which appears, select Display Settings.
- Click on Advanced Display.
- Choose a different refresh rate.
- Click the Revert button.
There you go, the icons will (should?) all be back.
