HP laptop suddenly asked for bitlocker recovery key after updating on windows 11.

I just updated my laptop and suddenly got a message that I need to enter a recovery key. However, I have never set up a BitLocker recovery key and I think it was enabled through the update which has now locked all of my data. I have a lot of coding that I have saved onto my local drive on the laptop and didn't know this could happen one day. What should I do? Is there any compensation I could get from this? I bought it from BestBuy a year ago.

Can the update be undone...I don't want to keep having the recovery message and having to put code in...very annoying issue....I assumed it meant something wrong with the laptop?

I took it to computer shop..technician said had resolved it but when I came to use laptop this evening and then shut down...kept coming back on and then I got the recovery message again..?? not sure what he did but appear to have added to the problem not sorted it?

Updates always seem to mess up my laptop....back to computer shop in the morning....
