i followed the setup for windows live mail setup for my new gmail account ...... but when done it fails getting my gmail folders because the server is rejecting my login ,,, any ideas?

I have fixed that problem on 23 client Win7 machines. Works like a charm.
Check your port and other settings. Could be a password problem. Repeat the whole procedure and then generate a new Gmail password for you computer. Enter that password in WLM.
Did you use IMAP?
