Maybe the reason I got all my thumbnails back is because I never updated to Windows 11 and am still using Windows 10??? And Omgosh....You just brought up another issue I have been encountering but didn't attribute it to anything but a dysfunctional product; that being, my mouse no longer works correctly. I'm with you...it may be time to dump Microsoft.

I've tried moving a picture from OneDrive to my hard dis, but that doesn't work. I tried deleting a picture in OneDrive and restoring it from the Recyle Bin, but that also didn't work. If Microsoft is going to create all these problems everytime them offer a new Windows version, then they need to create fixes for us. I've spent days trying to get out of the problems they've created. Pictures/Images is just one of the problems I've encountered. I also have not been able to get a mouse to work in Windows 11. I'm very close to leaving Microsoft for good.

I just discovered that my OneDrive sync activated (why? I don't know) and all my folders (pictures, docs, videos) were placed in OneDrive. This "placement" was what initiated the loss of my thumbnail pictures. I uninstalled OneDrive from my computer and all my thumbnail pictures came back. OneDrive is supposed to be a backup only and since I already backup everything to an external thumbdrive, I didn't bother to move any of the folders back to Pictures folder on my hard drive. I would suggest that before uninstalling OneDrive you may want to make that move first.

Thanks. This opened many but not all of my thumbnails. Why? Is there a way to get the remainder opened?

This must be for phones only. When I search for File Explorer I get a picture of what's on my desktop. I went to control panel, I clicked on the File Explorer Options, I made sure that icons were not to be shown but there was NO "show thumbnails, never icons" listed. Only "Display file icons on thumbnails" or "Always show icons, never thumbnails". It made no difference whether I had that checked or unchecked the Display icons on thumbnails. Nothing works. Those icons are ugly and disturbing lol.
