Alot of talk herein about "cache clearing". In investigation I found a cleanup tool called Restro. Sounds great and reported a load of error including regedits on my Windows 11 OS (Dell Inspiron). It comes at a cost and all literature is in German. Thoughts or experience?
Hi Robert MJ Millar:
I personally believe that paying for third-party disk cleaning tools is unnecessary - your Windows 11 OS has a built-in disk cleaner (see the MS support article Disk Cleanup in Windows) and you can manually clear your browsing history or configure your browser to automatically clear your browser cache on exit. I would also strongly advise against allowing a third-party tool like Restoro to clean your registry if it uses a one-click button that cleans all the so-called registry "errors" it finds that are usually harmless remnants of uninstalled programs. Please read the Microsoft KB article Microsoft Support Policy for the Use of Registry Cleaning Utilities that states that "Microsoft does not support the use of registry cleaners" and goes on to say that "A damaged Windows registry can exhibit a range of symptoms including excessive CPU utilization, longer startup and shutdown times, poor application functionality or random crashes or hangs". If I were you I would contact the makers of Restoro and try to get your money back.
In regards to the ModernDeployment-Diagnostics-Provider / Autopilot.dll WIL errors being discussed in this thread, some users have reported that clearing the TPM cache fixed these errors, but disk cleaning tools are (hopefully) not designed to clear the TPM cache. Clearing the TPM cache can be done from the TPM console as shown below [open a Run dialog box (Windows key + R) and enter tpm.msc to open the console] . However, this also comes with risks, especially if you have Bitlocker Disk Encryption enabled and don't have your 48-digit Bitlocker recovery key on hand before starting and/or can't recall the password for your Windows login account. See my 09-Feb-2023 post on page 1 of GhostSage's AutoPilot.dll WIL Error Was Reported Event 1010 - Causes Crashing/Issues Any Fix? for further information.
I'm currently seeing almost 100 of these ModernDeployment-Diagnostics-Provider / Autopilot.dll WIL errors logged in my Event Viewer every day, and while they're incredibly annoying they don't seem to be causing any harm or degrading the system performance of my Dell Inspiron 5584. I haven' tried clearing my TPM cache yet, and for now I'm just waiting to see if someone finds a safer workaround or if Microsoft finally acknowledges that they are aware of the problem and are working on bug fix.
