Windows 11 right click explorer menu - Show More as Default

Hello!

I cannot stand the new drop down when I right click on a file. Could you please update windows 11 so we can set the show more option as the default?

Hi Brie,

You can use a small registry hack to revert to the classic context menu if you're not fond of Windows 11's fast context menu.

  1. Open a Command Prompt window.
  2. Type the following command line and press Enter: 
     reg add HKCU\Software\Classes\CLSID\{86ca1aa0-34aa-4e8b-a509-50c905bae2a2}\InprocServer32 /ve /d "" /f

    It's rather sad that Windows 11 requires registry editing for basic functionally. Good job Microsoft for making it more complicated while going for a more user friendly experience.

    I don't understand why they are so set on touch functionality. The last thing I want while working is constantly having to lift my arms, and a greasy screen.

    My hunch is NEW AND TRENDY = PRODUCT EXCITEMENT = SALES and, naturally, CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT, which I'm not criticizing.

    Hi Ramesh,

    You recently helped me expertly with a different problem that involved a Registry change so I wonder if you can help me now?

    I used a different website to try to get the classic right-click menu and, while the command they provided was slightly different than yours at the tail end, it did seem to create the correct Registry key, yet a Restart did not change the right-click menu from the Win11 style.

    Here's a screenshot I saved showing their instructions on the left and my results on the right:

    Since it didn't work, I'd rather get it out of the Registry but I don't know the command for that. Can you provide it?

    Alternatively, can you guide me how to fix this so I will have the classic right-click menu? Maybe deleting it and starting over would be best?

    Please note, when typing the string 86ca1aa0, the fifth character could be the number 1 or the lower case letter L as they look nearly the same in the command box. (I notice in your example above they also look nearly identical.) I had used the lower case L. Maybe that is my problem and, if so, can you help me fix it?
