Now KB5015814 won't install

The strangest thing with these 2 failures to install (KB5014668 and KB5015814) is if you read the posts, there are Intel and AMD CPU's involved. Some are running Malwarebytes (and it's uninstall or disabling seems to work) and others are not running Malwarebytes but encountering the failure. Some users disable .NET Framework 3.5 and that works. Some failures 3.5 is not even active. Some are user built PC's, others are store bought complete systems. An in place upgrade works for most but not for all. Somewhere there has to be a common reason for the failure. I don't think that will come out in this forum. MS has been getting numerous feedback reports so they should be aware of the problem. But if it's only affecting a few thousand (million??) that may be a small issue to them??? Well, hang in there. The next big test will be August 9.

And it's my guess, there are a lot of users who have no idea that these updates are not even installing. Those are the ones that know little more than pushing the "on" button. They have no idea what the "settings" button is or where to find. I know an elderly couple near me that only knew to shut down their PC by holding the "on" button. Telling them to look to see if they had an update failure is far beyond their ability. Oh well.....

Thanks. I was never able to install KB5015814 in four of my PCs**.** I figured a new update would come out that would finally work. And today, KB5015882 showed up, but it had the same install issues as KB5015814. So I followed your suggestion, and I was able to install KB5015882 in all four PCs. Thanks again!!

Yep, I too had to disable Net 3.5 (as well as MB, previously I only needed MB disabling). I also downloaded the update & updated manually.

This really sucked for me. I had to fully turn off the malwarebytes, as well as turning it off on startup, then restart PC.

Then I had to turn off the .Net options from the windows features, but this was a catch 22. I couldn't do this because when I tried, I would receive an error message stating "catastrophic failure". The error code seemed to be indicated a pending update waiting for PC to restart, but even after restarting the PC this would keep happening. In order to resolve this part, I had to delete the pending.xml file from my C:\Windows\WinSxS folder; this part wasn't straightforward either as the file was locked by Windows itself. I had to launch safe mode, terminate the BITS and Windows updates services, then right click on the winsxs folder to asssign myself edit access under the security tab in order to delete the file. Only then was I able to restart and successfully turn off the .net features in order to restart again and successfully do the windows updates.

I don't think ordinary windows users would be able to do all of this, and hope windows fixes this.

Likewise I unchecked the net.framework boxes and shut off Malwarebytes. After a couple restarts it had installed the latest Win update KB5015882.

But then I couldn't get net.frameword started again and the 4.8 framework wasn't available in in Windows features, Got the same crazy message when trying to manually install net.f 3.5. Finally, the stars aligned and got framework installed, then 4.8 made an appearance and got that working. Total agreement, about updates shouldn't take hour of nonsense to get them installed. MS is the best advertisement for Apple.
