Windows activation after bios update

If I was you, I'll try the MSI forum's method (you can find it in the previous pages of this forum too)

In short you have to disable TPM from BIOS and restart, before any BIOS update.

Windows should ask for the same weird pin change, but this time you should be fine since you didn't change any

hardware component, TPM settings included.

After doing that, you're free to update BIOS every time you want and without the need of doing again this procedure. At least, accordingly to the before mentioned MSI forum.

You'll ever have to script safe net, if something goes wrong.

By the way, I downloaded a copy of my OS license invoice from the microsoft account, just in case they complain about this method and any trace of my purchase is 'magically' lost.

Take merit in providing an answer that apparently the Microsoft Windows team can't. I'm really disappointed in their lack of response. Yeah, I getchya. I gave mad props to M*** in a recent twitch. Reviewing the script shows the simplicity of the process (take note MS goons).

Yeah, I downloaded all my license information, but since it's so tied to our email address (I think they're forcing a @live account, not sure), just logging in with that account "should" recognize the account, license and hardware profile. That process utterly failed after updating microcode at the BIOS level. TY again.

The worst thing of this whole ridiculous support it is not that they admit "hey we're not competent/willing enough to solve this problem", but the

"buy another license, cause we assume you're not entitled to have a legal license, we only care about your money"

Funny you say that. I'm testing several distros on Virtualbox. I'm not even playing with their Linux subsystem anymore.

You're right. We pay, they screw up, we pay more? Nope. Things were kinda going well until recently. I wonder what "good idea fairy" manager made things worse.

SOLVED - I posted on here that I had the same problem - I built my computer in May and updated my BIOS (MSI Tomahawk Z690) in September, causing my copy of Windows to deactivate. I had purchased my copy of Windows 11 on the Microsoft store, so figured this would be a simple fix. Ended up having to contact Microsoft and was escalated to level 3 support, spending about 4 or 5 hours on calls and Quick Assist sessions, about 10 to 12 of these in total. Finally, after all the troubleshooting, log collecting, etc., Microsoft issued me a new product key. I have seen people say that they have been told they will have to buy a new key, that the techs can't resolve the issue, etc. I may have just got very lucky with my dealings with support, but one thing I did through the whole process, frustrating as it was, was to remain pleasant and thankful for the tech's time in assisting me. Anyway, just my two cents. Took about 3 weeks or so to resolve the situation.
