Windows Installer reconfigured the product. Product Name: Microsoft GameInput. Product Version: 10.1.22621.1011. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation crashes PC

Any solutions known? I've looked and nothing has worked so far but they are old posts. This has been a problem for years now and the muppets at microsoft have done **** to fix it.

I'm on day 4 without a bluescreen now, which is the longest period since the problem started, which is unsurprisingly about when I bought gamepass and started playing xbox games.

So the method I posted I've seen mentioned a bunch of places, but it was also followed by 2 more commands that never worked for me. Apparently the one was enough though.

That github link looks like a pretty permanent solution. I was going to reinstall after testing, so I'm interested to hear how it works out or if you decide to reverse the process. Looks like I missed the part where you said you reinstalled. Hope that works and I'll have to try it after finishing my testing.

I think I'll probably reinstall the services tomorrow or the next day. I feel like 5 days after daily/bidaily crashes for over a month is pretty telling.

If it is what it seems like, it's pretty frustrating. I bought 3 years of gamepass to play on my PC. I'd be curious to hear from Microsoft on how they plan to make this right.

Hi Jimmy. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

    1. There's some recent fixes for this here:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

    https://www.surfacetablethelp.com/2022/06/gamei...

    1. Go over Windows using this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account to replace yours which may be corrupted. Then if necessary continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

    1. Update your drivers and BIOS/UEFI firmware from the PC or motherboard maker's Support Downloads web page, using the full model number, Serial Number or Dell Service Tag on sticker. Compare the latest drivers available for download with the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button. Make sure you have the latest BIOS or UEFI firmware, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.

Updating drivers from the Device Manager or Windows Update is rarely enough. The most basic thing we need to learn to maintain a PC is keep the latest manufacturer's drivers installed from their Support Downloads web page. Everything else depends on this.

    1. If nothing else works then do a Repair Install, by installing Media Creation Tool, open tool and choose to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows while keeping files, programs and most settings in place, is the most stable method to advance to the latest version, and solves most problems. Tutorial here: https://www.tomshardware.com/how-to/fix-windows...

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.

    Hi Greg

We've had quite a few updates on this thread since you initially posted - any chance you could take a look or get another MVP to jump on?

I found the error listed under "Hardware Error" in the reliability history, and in the details section (double click the listing) it showed the kernel type, which I googled. I don't think it actually was a hardware error as such though, I think gameinput just fried what ever I was using at the time!

I've now gone for the full uninstall of Xbox and all the associated bits (again), game services etc via the console/powershell. There shouldn't be a trace of it left on my system... So I'll let you know if that makes any difference.
