How to disable Malwarebytes and .Net 3.5?

I wish I had read your report before I reloaded MS iso as a repair to my system. Were are the geniuses at MS that created this problem? How did you come to this solution and find that .NET 3.5 was the problem? I hope MS offers a fix to the general public, as they would never know that reinstalling windows could be avoided. I have three computers, and they all stopped updating the cumulative updates, and it took me hours to load the ISO on each to fix the problem. Thank you.

To disable Malwarebytes, start Malwarebytes by double-clicking on the malwarebytes icon in the taskbar, then the malwarebytes welcome screen will display. On the right of the screen, you see "Real Time Protection". Untick all four items to disable them (i.e. Web protection, Malware protection, etc..).

When you are done after the the windows update, do not forget to enable all four items again.

I found that Malwarebytes was not the issue, so you may want to try with disabling .Net 3.5 only to start with. If not sufficient, then also disable Malwarebytes.

To disable .Net.35, this is explained earlier in this post, but here it is again:

Two ways to turn the Windows features on or off.

1. Go to control panel, then programs and features. Then select Turn Windows features on or off.

-or-

2. Mouse Right click on start (bottom left of screen), select Search and type "Turn" (with the quotes) in the seach area. Turn Windows features on or off will appear on screen, select it.

Then .Net framework 3.5 will be first in the list. Untick the little box next to it and press enter. Windows will do a few things. Wait until

windows asks you to restart your machine. Restart, then go to check Windows Update and see if KB5015814 downloads and installs correctly. If it does, then you can reactivate .Net 3.5 by doing almost the same thing as turning it off, i.e ticking the little box next to it and press enter.

If Windows asks you to search your system or the internet to reactivate .Net, you can choose either. I did select to download it from the internet.

If Windows update still does not download and install correctly after these steps, I suggest you pause the Windows update for one or two weeks and wait until Microsoft provides a fix. Installing OS over OS can be quite complicated and if you are not experienced enough, I would not recommend to do it.

PS: I did what Nicholas Joslin1 explained in his post on July 14, 2022 on the same thread to turn off .Net 3.5 and also what JeffBakst explained in his post on same date, only difference I did turn off Malwarebytes and .Net 3.5 in two steps. I first deactivated Malwarebytes and this did nothing, then turned off .Net 3.5 and found it was the problem.

I spent quite some time browsing through the posts on this problem and also tried a lot of suggestions which did not work. Then I read July 14, 2022 JeffBakst post which described exactly my problem and decribed he disabled Malwarebytes and disabled .Net 3.5 etc. I started to disable Malwarebytes alone and it did not work.. Then I disabled .Net 3.5, restarted my device and the update worked. I did not guess it was .Net 35, nor did I invent anything. I simply tried what JeffBakst suggested which did work for him.

At least it worked for 3 individuals and probably more. For me tends to prove it was it. And this is a much simpler solution than Inplace installing OS over OS.
