I've been running Windows 11 since Nov 2021. This is the first update failure I've encountered. I was trying to install KB5014668. It stopped at 25% install and showed error 0x80000ffff. I ran troubleshooter (multiple times) to no avail. Upon a restart, it showed installing an update, in the middle it rebooted and then on the subsequent restart it showed install to 48% then said something went wrong, not to worry as it was restoring. It rebooted again, showing the same message, on the next restart it booted into windows. I've run sfc /scannow and dism restorehealth. Neither showed an error or helped. I use Macrium and also tried mounting an image taken before I tried the update and copied the Software Distribution folder and pasted it over the current folder. No help there either. I am able to download Windows Defender definition updates okay at this point.
I could just restore the whole drive to a point before I tried the install but would like to use that as a last resort. Right now I can perform multiple restarts with it booting straight into Windows. So I'm not sure if I should just wait until the July cumulative is available to see what happens or is there something I can or should try at this point, like try to download and install it straight from the update catalog?

Update... I did try to use the Windows Catalog to do a manual install. It seemed to download ok but when I hit install it failed immediately with an error code of 0x80070002 (I got this from the reliability monitor)

I am also using Malwarebytes I completely uninstalled it using their tool and tried again to install KB5014668 again same issue so I am not trying anything else to get this installed Microsoft has to fix it they should never have released this preview knowing that their were going to be issues.
I did the clean uninstall of MBAM and the Windows 11 update still failed to install. I'm just going to ignore this whole problem for a while and see what develops. Thanks to everyone who is participating.

Does anyone know how to report this to Microsoft? Do they know about this? It doesn't seem there are millions with this problem but certainly more than one.
Maybe if John DeV can get involved again we can get some more information on this.
I have a hunch. First, I must point out that I had this issue on two different computers. I hate coincidences so decided to do some probing first.
The previous (successful) update was KB5014697. This is the first time I have seen an update out of numerical sequence. Is it possible there is an internal check during the attempted update that makes sure that an update is in the proper sequence?
That would make sense, because a forced out-of-sequence update might not make the proper new adjustments.
Possibly. But after I did an in place repair upgrade, when it was doing updates, the .NET and some others installed ok but when it got the cumulative update, not KB5014668, it did the same thing and failed, but with a different error code. I'm not sure of the number but when I did the repair, I think I was on .313 verson and it was just trying to update to the latest. But since it was a bunch of updates, who knows what order it was going in. I'm hoping John DeV or another moderator shows up soon.
