I've been running Windows 11 since Nov 2021. This is the first update failure I've encountered. I was trying to install KB5014668. It stopped at 25% install and showed error 0x80000ffff. I ran troubleshooter (multiple times) to no avail. Upon a restart, it showed installing an update, in the middle it rebooted and then on the subsequent restart it showed install to 48% then said something went wrong, not to worry as it was restoring. It rebooted again, showing the same message, on the next restart it booted into windows. I've run sfc /scannow and dism restorehealth. Neither showed an error or helped. I use Macrium and also tried mounting an image taken before I tried the update and copied the Software Distribution folder and pasted it over the current folder. No help there either. I am able to download Windows Defender definition updates okay at this point.
I could just restore the whole drive to a point before I tried the install but would like to use that as a last resort. Right now I can perform multiple restarts with it booting straight into Windows. So I'm not sure if I should just wait until the July cumulative is available to see what happens or is there something I can or should try at this point, like try to download and install it straight from the update catalog?

Update... I did try to use the Windows Catalog to do a manual install. It seemed to download ok but when I hit install it failed immediately with an error code of 0x80070002 (I got this from the reliability monitor)

Well it looks like this finally hit YouTube. This is an explanation, sort of, as to what happened. Didn't mention what MS is doing that will fix this on July 12 but does go into the repair install as a fix.

I have read all the suggestions and tried them, many hours. KB5014668 get stuck. With each boot windows 11 updates were being installed then an error message.
I had an image backup that predated the error and installed it. Then I downloaded Windows Media Creator and tried to install Windows 11 on top of Windows 11 and it chocked and reverted back to the installed Windows 11. Something is very wrong with this update. I have now blocked it from installing. I am thankful I had a backup.
Microsoft should pull this update and find out why so many people are having trouble.
Well, like many others I had to download the current ISO and created a boot disc which I used to do an in-place upgrade, keeping all my files and apps. I did have to recreate a couple of folders (happily, they were empty anyway), but after all that, I managed to get the Update to take. Oh, and I did have to reinstall some license keys that disappeared. So far, everything seems to be functioning ok. The thing is, I probably wouldn't have had to spend two days working all this had the Update not caused me issues from the getgo.

If you have installed Crypto pro you should delete it (maybe even with special utility "cspclean" which you could find on their site) and then you will be able to install KB5014668. This also solves troubles with Microsoft store and activation of MS Office through the Microsoft account.
Привет! Мне помогло удаление Крипто про версии 4.х. С установленной версией 5.х все работает хорошо. В том числе это реашет проблему доступа к магазину Windows и активации MS Office через учетную запись Microsoft.

If you have installed Crypto pro you should delete it (maybe even with special utility "cspclean" which you could find on their site) and then you will be able to install KB5014668. This also solves troubles with Microsoft store and activation of MS Office through the Microsoft account.
