I've been running Windows 11 since Nov 2021. This is the first update failure I've encountered. I was trying to install KB5014668. It stopped at 25% install and showed error 0x80000ffff. I ran troubleshooter (multiple times) to no avail. Upon a restart, it showed installing an update, in the middle it rebooted and then on the subsequent restart it showed install to 48% then said something went wrong, not to worry as it was restoring. It rebooted again, showing the same message, on the next restart it booted into windows. I've run sfc /scannow and dism restorehealth. Neither showed an error or helped. I use Macrium and also tried mounting an image taken before I tried the update and copied the Software Distribution folder and pasted it over the current folder. No help there either. I am able to download Windows Defender definition updates okay at this point.
I could just restore the whole drive to a point before I tried the install but would like to use that as a last resort. Right now I can perform multiple restarts with it booting straight into Windows. So I'm not sure if I should just wait until the July cumulative is available to see what happens or is there something I can or should try at this point, like try to download and install it straight from the update catalog?

Update... I did try to use the Windows Catalog to do a manual install. It seemed to download ok but when I hit install it failed immediately with an error code of 0x80070002 (I got this from the reliability monitor)

The Update installed fine on my LG Gram, but has kept failing on my husband's PC which has identical hardware with different software.
We do not agree that the best thing to do is to reinstall Windows 11!
The problem is with the Update. If a decent response is not posted, then the best option seems to be to wait until Microsoft fixes the Update.
I have the exact same issue as KenMel there is somehing wrong with this update.

Ok. BITS and Windows Update were stopped. I started them.
I ran DISM and SFC, both completed successfully with no errors showing.
I then tried to run the bat file. It stopped after a bit at access denied and while I was looking for directions to fix that, it completed. I ran it again as admin and it completed showing several errors as it could not find certain files, but it seemed to say it corrected that problem when it completed. I then ran Windows trouble shooter and for the first time I got a yellow banger saying there were update problems but then showed 2 green checks that files were replaced or repaired.
I again attempted to install KB5014668. The download stopped at 3% for a while then quickly went to 96% and 100%. It then started the install and again got to 25% and failed with the same 0x8000ffff error code. I had to restart several times to get it to boot into windows without it trying to finish the install.
So I'm down to the point of having to do a repair install. This bothers me a bit as I'm wondering if whatever stopped this update will interfere with the repair??? Is that a valid concern? Although I have Macrium backups, I haven't tested them in a while (My old test PC won't run Win11).

**Make sure Windows Update and Background Intelligent Transfer services are available and running.
Press Windows key+R to open Run then type: services.msc
Press Enter to open Services app
Double-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service.
If the Startup status lists Stopped, click Start and then click OK. If the status is Running, right click then select Restart
Double-click Windows Update.
If the Startup status lists Stopped, click Start and then click OK. If the status is Running, right click then select Restart
**Please try to run SFC and DISM to check for any system errors and corrupted files.

If the issue still persists, Please try performing an In-place Upgrade. It will definitely help in resolving update errors. Performing this can repair broken operating system files while your personal files, settings and installed applications will not be removed.
