Can't install KB5014668

I've been running Windows 11 since Nov 2021. This is the first update failure I've encountered. I was trying to install KB5014668. It stopped at 25% install and showed error 0x80000ffff. I ran troubleshooter (multiple times) to no avail. Upon a restart, it showed installing an update, in the middle it rebooted and then on the subsequent restart it showed install to 48% then said something went wrong, not to worry as it was restoring. It rebooted again, showing the same message, on the next restart it booted into windows. I've run sfc /scannow and dism restorehealth. Neither showed an error or helped. I use Macrium and also tried mounting an image taken before I tried the update and copied the Software Distribution folder and pasted it over the current folder. No help there either. I am able to download Windows Defender definition updates okay at this point.

I could just restore the whole drive to a point before I tried the install but would like to use that as a last resort. Right now I can perform multiple restarts with it booting straight into Windows. So I'm not sure if I should just wait until the July cumulative is available to see what happens or is there something I can or should try at this point, like try to download and install it straight from the update catalog?

Update... I did try to use the Windows Catalog to do a manual install. It seemed to download ok but when I hit install it failed immediately with an error code of 0x80070002 (I got this from the reliability monitor)

    I'm glad more people are responding to this post. At least we can see it's not an individual screw up that caused it. What the common factor that is at the root cause may never be explained by Microsoft. It will just be fixed on the July 12 updates. Again, my only fear now if that whatever caused this glitch for all posting here didn't screw up something in the registry or another update function that will affect future updates. I am getting Windows Defender updates okay so that's a plus. Otherwise, I've put a pause on updates until mid July. Unless someone discovers a fix right now just hang in there for another 2 weeks and hopefully there will be good outcome.

    The Update installed fine on my LG Gram, but has kept failing on my husband's PC which has identical hardware with different software.

    We do not agree that the best thing to do is to reinstall Windows 11!

    The problem is with the Update. If a decent response is not posted, then the best option seems to be to wait until Microsoft fixes the Update.

    Why are you having such difficulty with this KB5014668? If you screwed it up, fix it or provide us with a solution for us to fix it. You are not taking good care of your customers on this issue.

    I am having this same problem (won't install KB5014668) on a fairly new Intel I7 desktop. I think you have a good point that it must be working for the vast majority, or we would see more news about the problem.

    Are we all doing something atypical? For example, I enabled the Virtual Machine Platform and installed Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL2). That would not be the expected configuration. Is this something we have all done on the machines that are failing to upgrade?

    If not... maybe there is something else we are all doing that would not be typical for a Windows user.

    I'm getting the same error and it makes me wonder what the computer type is where it IS working.

    I'm not going to waste a bunch of time on it, as I'm sure it eventually be fixed.

    (oh yeah! Sfc scannow and the the DISM's are all good)

    Interesting I also have an AMD processor Ryzen 7 3800X just recently updated bios to 6042 to correct stuttering on some machines. Thanks for that info. I sent feedback to Microsoft hopefully get an answer soon
