Can't install KB5014668

I've been running Windows 11 since Nov 2021. This is the first update failure I've encountered. I was trying to install KB5014668. It stopped at 25% install and showed error 0x80000ffff. I ran troubleshooter (multiple times) to no avail. Upon a restart, it showed installing an update, in the middle it rebooted and then on the subsequent restart it showed install to 48% then said something went wrong, not to worry as it was restoring. It rebooted again, showing the same message, on the next restart it booted into windows. I've run sfc /scannow and dism restorehealth. Neither showed an error or helped. I use Macrium and also tried mounting an image taken before I tried the update and copied the Software Distribution folder and pasted it over the current folder. No help there either. I am able to download Windows Defender definition updates okay at this point.

I could just restore the whole drive to a point before I tried the install but would like to use that as a last resort. Right now I can perform multiple restarts with it booting straight into Windows. So I'm not sure if I should just wait until the July cumulative is available to see what happens or is there something I can or should try at this point, like try to download and install it straight from the update catalog?

Thanks for any help with this.

Update... I did try to use the Windows Catalog to do a manual install. It seemed to download ok but when I hit install it failed immediately with an error code of 0x80070002 (I got this from the reliability monitor)

    Thanks for posting that. I previously did the repair install and except for disabling Malwarebytes it didn't work for me. I've never had MB cause a failed update for me before and when I posted on their forum, the gurus there never heard of MB stopping an update install. (It's always been posted there NOT to run multiple antivirus programs.) I rolled it back and am at the starting point. What I'm seeing here is some work arounds work for some people and some don't work. Glad this one worked for you.

    The problem is it shouldn't take a work around to fix this. Especially one that takes that much effort. That may be a little too much for a lot of users.

    I ran scripts, did the repair, etc and can only hope something else didn't get broken so the next set of updates on July 12 install okay.

    In another thread I started, independent advisor Greg Carmack said it might be best to stay put and wait until the next set of updates come out.

    I'm not worried now about trying to get this one to install but more of a mind to wonder what the common thread for all these failures is. I'm guessing we'll never know.

    Same problem here, my first ever issue with any Win11 updates on MSI laptop, Intel i5.
    I can see that several system processes run, consuming CPU (my fan kicks in), download gets to 25% or so, then fails.
    Re-tried several times over several days.

    Hi all following this thread.

    Like you all, I had no joy with the KB 5104668 update, it would download but only get to 25% install. I tried the suggested fixes in these posts but none worked, so I created my own thread and was answered by Jerico T. who after two suggestions came up with downloading an ISO Win 11 file and doing a clean/repair install of Win 11 64 bit, it fixed the problem and after some time downloading and installing the ISO file.

    I was also running Malwarebytes and Bitdefender anti-virus, Jerico gave me a link that says not to run multiple anti-virus programs at once. I have used both programs since Win 7, but decided to uninstall both programs before doing the ISO Win 11 fix. I will reinstall one of the third party anti-virus programs later.

    I'm seeing the same issue w/this ONE update and I have an Intel processor on this HP desktop. My HP laptop has NO issues and installed the said update just fine. I can't recall now what process it has. Gone thru ALL the steps many have listed. I had gone as far as getting the Win11 install on a USB and reinstalled over what was there. Glad I didn't do more than that b/c I can see I'd have the same problem. Guess will wait it out, see what comes of this ill-released update. C'mon MS!!

    That will never happen I will never own a Crapple product. I think if enough people give feedback to Microsoft they will take care of it
