Can't install KB5014668

I've been running Windows 11 since Nov 2021. This is the first update failure I've encountered. I was trying to install KB5014668. It stopped at 25% install and showed error 0x80000ffff. I ran troubleshooter (multiple times) to no avail. Upon a restart, it showed installing an update, in the middle it rebooted and then on the subsequent restart it showed install to 48% then said something went wrong, not to worry as it was restoring. It rebooted again, showing the same message, on the next restart it booted into windows. I've run sfc /scannow and dism restorehealth. Neither showed an error or helped. I use Macrium and also tried mounting an image taken before I tried the update and copied the Software Distribution folder and pasted it over the current folder. No help there either. I am able to download Windows Defender definition updates okay at this point.

I could just restore the whole drive to a point before I tried the install but would like to use that as a last resort. Right now I can perform multiple restarts with it booting straight into Windows. So I'm not sure if I should just wait until the July cumulative is available to see what happens or is there something I can or should try at this point, like try to download and install it straight from the update catalog?

Thanks for any help with this.

Update... I did try to use the Windows Catalog to do a manual install. It seemed to download ok but when I hit install it failed immediately with an error code of 0x80070002 (I got this from the reliability monitor)

    Hi all following this thread.

    Like you all, I had no joy with the KB 5104668 update, it would download but only get to 25% install. I tried the suggested fixes in these posts but none worked, so I created my own thread and was answered by Jerico T. who after two suggestions came up with downloading an ISO Win 11 file and doing a clean/repair install of Win 11 64 bit, it fixed the problem and after some time downloading and installing the ISO file.

    I was also running Malwarebytes and Bitdefender anti-virus, Jerico gave me a link that says not to run multiple anti-virus programs at once. I have used both programs since Win 7, but decided to uninstall both programs before doing the ISO Win 11 fix. I will reinstall one of the third party anti-virus programs later.

    Ive got same issue since previous two updates. In on Windows 11 and got AMD CPU. One time i've spend 5 hours to do all kind of actions to install any of those last two updates (sfc, dism, clean boot, cleaning SoftwareDistribution folders, Catroots, Winsocks and other stuff besides clean install). Ive even uinstall C++ distros and done some things wiht .net 3.5. No luck.

    But ive noticed one thing - updates stopped working for me after last .net 4.x update (last week of the May 2022).

    PS. After ive failed KBxxx97 update it was gone and replaced by KBxx68 one. Of course both acts the same - 30%, restart, 96..98%, "sorry go f yourself, im rolling back last good state of OS"

    This is exactly my concern as well. I have a new Windows 11 installation on a i9-12900K 12th Gen Alder Lake with ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 Extreme and this KB5014668 "update" unfortunately it is giving me these problems. On another new AMD System, I have the very same thing going on, only my Dell XPS took the update without a hiccup.

    Something strange is going on here, it is hard to believe Microsoft did not know about this. I understand things can happen, but it is all about how a company takes care of you IF something goes wrong. So far it seems Microsoft does not value us as customers and not dignify our concern with a response.

    I am having this same problem (won't install KB5014668) on a fairly new Intel I7 desktop. I think you have a good point that it must be working for the vast majority, or we would see more news about the problem.

    Are we all doing something atypical? For example, I enabled the Virtual Machine Platform and installed Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL2). That would not be the expected configuration. Is this something we have all done on the machines that are failing to upgrade?

    If not... maybe there is something else we are all doing that would not be typical for a Windows user.

    Mine is an intel i7 9700K.

    Someone who removed his posts thought it was due to Malwarebytes as two of us were using that program.

    Lots of coincidences.

    According to independent advisor Greg Carmack, they do know this is a problem. My only fear is that this failure didn't mess up some files that will interfere with future updates.

    And it's obvious that this is not affecting millions of PC's or there would be articles about it in gHacks Technology or Ask Woody as they publish when things like this happen. But is a problem that certainly is real.
