Microsoft GameInput Application Reconfiguration Crashes Win 11 PC

According to your description, I knew that when you are playing a game your computer crashes and you are sure GameInput is causing it, although you have tried uninstalling the component, it will be automatically installed every time you reboot the system. Is that right?

First of all, GameInput is part of Microsoft Gaming Services. It is used by Universal Windows Platform (UWP) games on Windows 10 and Xbox One, it is usefol for running and programming in games in MS platforms.

If you have installed the Xbox Beat version, it is recommended that you uninstall the component, or use the following command to completely uninstall the Xbox-related content, and then reinstall the latest stable version of the Xbox. Run Power Shell as an administrator (win logo key + "Q", type "Power Shell", select "Run as administrator") and type the following commands one by one.

get-appxpackage *Xbox* | remove-Appxpackage



add-appxpackage -register "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\*Xbox*\AppxManifest.xml" –disabledevelopmentmode  

Have you tried uninstalling Game Service? If not, you can try the following command to achieve this. Run Power Shell as an administrator (win logo key + "Q", type "Power Shell", select "Run as administrator") and type the following command.

get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers

Then try to open the game, if the game still reports errors, you can try reinstalling the game service in the Microsoft Store. Type the link below in the address bar of your Edge browser, then follow the instructions to open the Microsoft Store and reinstall the game service.

Then such a problem may be caused by corrupted system files. You can try the following commands to try to fix it. Please run Command Prompt as an administrator ("Win" logo key + "Q", enter "cmd", select "Run as administrator"), and enter the following commands one by one. These two commands require network support, please keep your network connection smooth and stable.

sfc /scannow



DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Was having the same issue. After reading this thread, I tried the powershell commands. I was also able to remove the Microsoft GameInput and the XBox application from the Apps and Features list. Restarted several times and they have not come back. Will see how this goes.

I found the problem was increasing to several times per day. I found the association with the Game Input updates in the "View Reliability History" window. The succssful Microsoft Game Iput reconfiguration happened at the same time as the crash every time.

Mine's still clocking in at 1 a day...

I started having this issue recently after a forced MS update, whilst playing non-MS games on Steam like Euro Truck Simulator 2 and with MS games like Forza 5. A Logitech gearbox I use would suddenly stop working, followed by a 'reconfigured GameInput' entry in the Event Viewer a split second later and a complete system deadlock until power-cycled.

sfc /scannow is finding no problems.

I cannot remove the GameInput via powershell, I get a deployment error and removal fails.

I can uninstall it via Add and Remove Programs, but on restart it comes back.

Crashing while gaming is new to me and only started this past week. Random crashing started almost a month ago.

One thing I did notice and it might be useful for y'all with bigger brains than me. It's only crashed on me gaming 3 times in the last while.

The game is Hell Let Loose. Graphics settings at Epic and all three crashes happened between maps. The one round, let's say Remagen map ends. The score screen runs for a couple minutes then switches over to the next map loading screen. I'm not switching servers at these times, it's the same server loading a new map. Before the new game map loads and I'm still on the loading screen or the join squad screen, it's all tit's up.

Other than those 3 crashes, all others have been almost random with a number of them coinciding with a windows update even though I have turned updates off and run a program "Wub" which is listed as a solution in a similar thread here.

I can't help to feel there's a graffix connection since initially Miro was working fine for months then suddenly as I mentioned previously it started crashing when I tried to use it to convert and compress my shows from mkv to mp4 files. This Miro software worked fine till a few weeks ago when suddenly the next set of issues listed were crashing. It's still progressing with the crashing happening more and more often and now has the addition of when I'm gaming.

Some muppet is trying to recommend that you buy the Xbox pass, purchase one of the games and install it. The claim is that installing one of their games will correct whatever the issue is. Don't fall for it if you don't have the xbox pass or would purchase a microsoft game etc... It's a load of **** as expected. I've had the Xbox pass for about a year now. Having it doesn't fix ****. It's just another gimmick/method for the microsoft muppets to earn points for themselves for driving sales.

I got a note asking why if I'm so pissed off about these muppets do I keep checking back in. The answer is simple. As all are aware, I don't give two **** about what the MVP muppets have to say. I believe the solution will be worked out by one of the folks who are posting here looking for a solution and are truly working towards a fix. It's not a matter of earning GoodBoy points for us, unlike the muppets.

Well that got a lot longer and more redundant than intended. I BOLD lettering is the primary info i wanted to put up. The rest is me going on a roll to left field. I tried to delete some but I ran out of liquid paper and now need a new monitor. oops...

For anyone that might still be having this issue, I managed to "fix" it by uninstalling GameInput (via Apps & Features in Settings) and then completely removing Windows Gaming Services via Powershell. The main downside to this solution is that you will be unable to use the Xbox App, so if you regularly use GamePass, this might not be a viable option for you.

To remove WGS, use this:
