Microsoft GameInput Application Reconfiguration Crashes Win 11 PC

When playing any of my games launched through Battle.net my entire PC will crash, when checking the Reliability Monitor 100% of the time the crash is preceded by a "Successful application reconfiguration" of Microsoft GameInput. I have zero need for GameInput and for what I play I have no issues when I uninstall GameInput, but Microsoft forces the install each time my computer restarts.

I've looked for this issue an is appears it started for users with Windows 10 but there's no solution ever found. Microsoft support has people check their drivers, etc (all of my drivers are up to date and Windows is fully up to date) but no actual solution is offered. As far as I'm concerned I own my computer and should be able to determine which services I do or do not have installed on my PC but Microsoft is forcing this buggy install and I am unable to delete or otherwise modify the root folder this application is contained in.

I'm desperate for some sort of solution to this problem and it would be great if Microsoft would fix whatever this issue is. Having to remember to uninstall this app every time I want to play a game on my gaming PC is frustrating.

I'm pretty sure I read this elsewhere, but, in my case, what I was sure was GameInput crashing my computer was, in fact, a bad stick of RAM. Like others, it seemed like every time my computer crashed it was preceded in the logs by GameInput running an attempting to do something. I restarted and let Windows check my memory using the "Windows Memory Diagnostic" reboot process and the bad memory was identified almost immediately. After a couple of tries, I isolated and pulled the right stick, (and have since replaced it) and have had no further crashes. I wish good luck to those that come behind me.

I ran the memory diagnostic - no issues reported.

My previous fix attempt was a failure. Since it seemed like the GameInput Reconfiguration was some sort of update, I paused WIndows Update until Patch Tuesday and did all the updates at once. Same for Microsoft Store apps. But the GameInput Reconfigurations seem like they can happen whenever.

On the most recent Patch Tuesday, I updated everything just after noon (from Reliability Monitor). This included a successful GameInput Reconfiguration. Then at 8:07pm (while the computer was sleeping) there was another GameInput Reconfiguration which triggered an improper shutdown (i.e., crash).

I don't understand why this is happening while the computer is sleeping, but I'm not sure how to block that. I believe this is part of the problem - for me at least.

Maybe removing GameServices could eliminate this, but I have Microsft Flight Simulator 2020 which requires these services.

I have another Windows 11 machine - a laptop. When comparing configurations in the Services app, I notice that my workstation has two GameInput Service entries, one with startup type Manual (Trigger Start) and the other Manual. The laptop (with no games) only has the Trigger Start entry. When I right-click on the entries and select Properties, then examine the Recovery tab, I find something suspicious. On my workstation, the recovery actions were set to "Restart the Computer." On my laptop, they were set to "Restart the Service." I'm wondering if this is my issue. I changed the recovery action to "Restart the Service."

My workstation is on Windows 11 Pro 22H2 (Windows Update hasn't updated this yet) and the laptop is on WIndows 11 Pro 23H2.

Let's see how long this works.

For someone who has just recently experienced this problem, reading all these work arounds is frightening. I don't have any games on my workstation. It's only used for recording in a studio. I use Presonus studio one with a Presonus mixing console plugged into my workstation via a firewire. I'm assuming the computer sees my mixer as a game. I have all the same issues and my reliability report looks like a Christmas tree. Going through all the treads it's hard to try all these solutions. Has anyone actually gotten a real tech from Microsoft to help?
