Game crash with "The description for Event ID 0 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found"

Hello!

A few games are crashed after a few minutes of gaming. The mouse got stuck for a few seconds after I'm able to alt+tab but the game process is not responding.

I found the following errors and warnings in the Windows event logs:

    Blind Monk, my friend.

    I have had issues with this error code but only with the game Modern Warfare two. I don't get it. I tried lots of things including the most recent which was the end all be all fix, I replaced my ram.

    I went from 4 sticks of 8 to 2 sticks of 16. I figured if it was my RAM, I will just replace it all. I ran great for a week, no crashes on Call of Duty MW2.

    I was like wow, we did it boys I cant believe it.

    Butttt then last night I crashed again and as well as today. Activision Support has given me absolutely no help. I work in IT so this one is frustrating, I've done a lot of research myself and haven't really gotten anywhere.

    I just don't get it anymore. I've had crashing issues with this game since it came out in October have tried to rollback drivers. Switch drives that the game was installed on, played with settings etc. This is the only game that crashes for me, I am truly stuck.

    Do you have any ideas? If it was truly my RAM, why doesn't it happen with other games?

    Glad this helped someone. I happened to be testing if PUBG performed better with HAGS on or off, and my game started to crash with this error as soon as HAGS was enabled.

    Thank your soul bro omg!!!!! I have tried everything from uninstalling drivers with DDU, uninstalling windows, disabling my overclock, undervolting my system, reinstalling games, reseating my gpu and ram and it was all because of this setting lmao, my usage was stuck at 100% and would constantly crash my gpu, it now sits around 45% in PUBg lmao. This has caused me so much stress.

    It may be you have faulty RAM.

    Try removing one of your RAM sticks (DIMM), and then swapping over to the other RAM stick

    I had this issue with same nvlddmkm error codes, and have posted a reply in this thread already stating that removing one of the DIMM resolved the issue, and using only the faulty DIMM resulted in system being unable to start.

    The GPU uses the RAM for some operations, so (in simple terms) it can lose communication with the driver if the RAM is not working correctly.

    Luckily, RAM is cheap and easy to replace.

    It worked for me, and I was struggling woth the problem for 3 years before finding out it was a RAM issue.

    Hi,

    I am facing almost the same issue since October last year. I am using a laptop Alienware m15 r1 bought in Feb 2020. My laptop specifications are as below:

    • i7-9750H
    • RTX 2060 Mobile
    • 2x 16 GB RAM
    • Connected with S2721DGF via mini DP to DP

    Previously I was using AOC 24G2 and never had this issue. But after some times with this monitor I observed that the screen on the monitor will turn blank for a while then the screen on my laptop will turn blank and quickly both restored, and this only happens when I plugged off the charger (means after transitioning from charging to on battery). While constantly plugged in, I never had this issue. It usually occurred once after plugged off the charger, but not like instantly. There is some buffer after turning off the charger before observing this issue. Usually the screen will turn off and recover in less than a minute, but more than a few seconds.

    Just to clarify, my issue doesn't relate to whether I am gaming or not, but just when plugging off the charger. There is no issue when plugging in the charger as well. I have a feeling there might be some windows settings that are the culprits. I also just tried turning off variable refresh rate in windows setting.

    What I tried:

    • Reinstall nvidia driver
    • Clean install nvidia driver using DDU
    • reset the nvidia control panel
    • Change power option in control panel so that both on battery and plugged in are set to be identical
    • Lower the monitor refresh rate from 165Hz to 144Hz

    None resolves the issue. Now I just tried to lower the resolution to 1080p to check if the issue persists (still trying).
