Thumbnails not showing Windows 11 - Pictures folder

Hi there,

So in my Pictures folder, I used to see all the images as thumbnails, as I should.

Now, some images are showing as usual, then there's a bunch not showing.

All I did was update Windows, sheesh, it's like living in a rocket with Microsoft, one moment you're headed in the right direction, galaxy etc, next you're hurtling into the Sun.

BTW, I've tried all the "fixes", open options, open properties, make sure x is unchecked, delete storage cache, temporary that is and and other, sdn scan, I mean what else is there?

Wouldn't you think Microsoft would want you to see your images as a thumbnail? Seems logical to me, anywho, does anyone know (coz Microsoft doesn't) what fix there is to get the annoying issue sorted? Or, better still, what download cleaner rearranger there is to force a user to enjoy their Windows 11 experience. (Rhetorical)

    I had the issue where photo and video thumbnails wouldn't show anything other than the default icon and thought the fix was gonna be one of those things that would take hours only to have no resolution.

    The very first attempt worked... And I'm kind of disappointment with myself now 🤣

    Thank you for helping me to solve the problem.

    Onedrive is a curse. Yet another attempt by Microsoft to milk every dollar. The hundreds of hours I have to waste every year on simple things, instead of working or creating, because this company just doesn't provide a reliable service. If you disable Onedrive, you open a whole other set of problems. But they want you to buy more backup memory. It doesn't matter if you have plenty of memory on your PC and other means of backing it up, they have to drain every dollar from your wallet.

    As someone who handles a lot of graphic files as part of my work, having no thumbnail display is a critical issue. Fortunately uninstalling OneDrive resolved the issue. OneDrive is hot garbage. Thank you ZAAAX for the solution!

    Read this thread with interest, couldn't agree more about Msoft and W11, but - a simple explorer ... options, view, and uncheck "Always show icons" fixed the problem without uninstalling Onedrive. But it is incredibly annoying that we now need a network to see the cloud files that used to live locally - I don't suppose Msoft has any interest in driving up internet data costs?, surely not.

    I have been able to address this issue by finding and deleting any corrupt files in the directory where I'm wanting thumbnails. I then clear the explorer thumbnail cache and let explorer regenerate thumbnails.

    To find corrupt files, I used IrfanView to generate its own thumbnails. While the thumbnails were being generated, I monitored where IrfanView also froze (the file after the last thumbnail generated). I then deleted this file, killed IrfanView in task manager, and started IrfanView again to generate thumbnails in the same directory. Once IrfanView was able to generate thumbnails for all files in a directory, explorer could then do the same. However, make sure you delete the explorer thumbnail cache before attempting to generate new thumbnails with explorer or it may not work.

    I agree with you about Microsoft not fixing the Thumbnail issues or any File Explorer issues. The helps provided by others have not resolved the problems. The only way to see the thousands of Thumbnails is to open the in MS Photo, and pretend to save them.. you can only do 30 at a time... I can view them in other Photo Software, but it would be nice that Basic features would work in MS Windows,
