Thumbnails not showing Windows 11 - Pictures folder

OneDrive being the problem - Confirmed

Just like everyone else, my thumbnails were not showing and I went through ALL of the "recommended" fixes before finding this thread.

Uninstalled OneDrive and poof... thumbnails are working.

Tried everything, and sure enough it was Onedrive. This isn't the first time Onedrive has made other functions of my computer glitch out, I wonder why something that is supposed to integral to Windows to the point I dont have the option to uninstall it, is so toxic to other functions.

FYI - Similar to the problem of using Onedrive and your thumbnails disappearing, this happens using Synology Drive synching with a NAS. I struggled with this for months, and after reading the problem with OneDrive documented above, I wondered if the same applied to Synology Drive. The cloud is the blue arrow circle that appears next to each icon. If you see that, you know it is synching, just like with Onedrive. I turned the synching off, and the thumbnails appeared. One other clue: when I go to a folder, the thumbnails appear and disappear as soon as they pop up in the Explorer window.

I conclude that the problem is not Onedrive but any program syncing your folders.

Interestingly, I do not have a problem with Onedrive with graphics or photos now that I stopped synching with Synology Drive, so perhaps this problem has been fixed with Onedrive, or there is some other demon lurking around somewhere.

My 'Picture' icons stopped showing picture images, AFTER a Windows update of course. It was that way for a few months... very aggravating. I tried a few things, but nothing worked.

After a few months, I typed in a search to find a 'fix'. Came to this page and followed various links, all with good advice, but none worked. I tried about 8 or 9 fixes, and I was about to give up.

'guidingtech' began with this typical fixes that the other links suggested, and I was about to close their page too, but scrolled a little farther down. 'guidingtech' suggested to delete Microsoft OneDrive, which I abhor anyway.

I went to programs and 'uninstalled' OneDrive, and Voila! (Wa-La!), all my picture image icons re-appeared! Thanks GuidingTech! Boo... Microaggressionsoft🫤

*Had to edit, because I originally typed "OneNote" instead of "OneDrive". It was "OneDrive" that I deleted to fix the problem😉

As someone who handles a lot of graphic files as part of my work, having no thumbnail display is a critical issue. Fortunately uninstalling OneDrive resolved the issue. OneDrive is hot garbage. Thank you ZAAAX for the solution!
