Remote desktop connection logon attempt failed.

Hello,

I am trying to make connection from my desktop to my laptop via Microsoft's RDP.

Whenever I try to connect, my credentials do not work. I am using the same Microsoft account on both of these devices. And I am certain that these credentials work elsewhere.

Now, I can connect the other way, from my laptop to my desktop following the exact same steps and credentials.

After a bit of looking on the web I found out that a Microsoft moderator pointed out in this post ( https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/cannot-log-in-my-pc-via-remote-desktop-locally/bca0edd9-1f91-4ea8-b8c6-9749007ac172 )
that RDP is not possible on PCs logged into the same Microsoft account. This is not my case as it only works one-directional, which is odd.

Both of my systems are running on Windows 10 pro.

Maybe I do not understand what I have to use as my credentials... I have just used my Microsoft account credentials for the account logged into Windows 10. After trying to change my password for that account, still only the old password works to log into remote desktop.

I was wondering if anyone could give me anymore insight on my problem or lead me to any solution.

    Thank you this worked!! Makes sense, I guess Windows doesn't cache the Microsoft Account credentials locally and this forces them to be cached.

    I think I found the solution, I was having the same issues and I did an experiment which worked for me.

    On the windows that you'd like to remote in, try go to "Setting -> Accounts > Sign-in options" and turn "OFF" (or on if it's originally off) the "only allow Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts" option. After that try RDP into the computer. For my case it works immediately.

    After it works, you could change back the "only allow Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts" back to whatever it was or appropriate for you. And RDP still works.....

    So, there maybe some bugs in handling the authentication and causing it not turned on properly on one of my PC (that upgrade from Windows 8 pro to 10 pro to 11 pro) while my freshly installed Windows 11 pro works out of the box.
