what is this error: An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk2\DR3 during a paging operation.

i went to the virtual memory thing first, and i found what i said. i don't know specifically what I should do in regards to that. the two links there say similar things. it says about 3x the initial size in the first link. I mentioned that i found that page files are supposed to reduce th work load.

Disk check did not show any errors at all on any disks. That is why i did not need to run diagnostics.

I am wondering if what i have reported afterwards could have been related to the errors. These sudden page file errors did not occur until today. I installed some software yesterday, and copied files at that time. I also transferred files from the external drive to the internal drive today, then i did a search.

If there aren't any hard drive errors in disk check, but the windows event log is reporting a disk page file error, i thought something in the time frame could be related.

Please continue with the steps I wrote out, as well as each step in the illustrated tutorials, and report back results so I know what else to suggest.

what might be causing that error?

i recently downloaded an update i think, and i also installed old microsoft software. it asked me if i wanted to install old mysql software, and i didn't allow it to, but it installed. i was trying to figure out the latest version.

I noticed a search/explorer crash happened possibly around the time of those errors. I don't know for certain.

I had examined different errors, and i probably turned on the system at some point. Around the time that i probably opened explorer, and started searching, the search crashed. possibly an activation error when trying to open an old version of word, but it said it registered.

mysql is connected to accounting software i think. i don't need that. I read that paging files are for making the system function smoothly, and it is related to the RAM.

I remember that i never saw this error before. i searched the different drives and copied files prior onto this system. I don't know if managing the allocated space will do something specifically or not?

Also, i installed that software yesterday, and also transferred files yesterday from the external hard drive. i transferred more files from the external hard drive to the new system today. Suddenly the search crashed, and that error occurred that i first posted about here. An article i found says it is often related to copying files between two external drives. Maybe it is related, but there were other factors this time? i copied to the main hard drive, and there is what i said.

You don't need paging files for data drives, just Windows where it assists the physical memory.

You can place the paging file on another drive, although it's not necessary. I would put it on the fastest drive. But that's also where I'd install Windows in the first place.

okay, i noticed that for the first link about virtual memory, that more than the recommended amount is allocated for all of the drives.

Then there not any errors found on any drives during the Check disc scans.
