How do I stop renamed files from moving to upper left corner

A few months ago I switched to a new laptop, then immediately downloaded windows upgrade on it, so I don't know which factor causes this. But ever since, every time I rename a file on the desktop, windows immediately moves the file to the upper left corner of the screen, or the nearest open space to this point. This is confusing when I'm trying to keep track of and arrange my desktop files in some other way, and I have to keep moving the file back to where I want it.

    Hi Scott

    Please try to Turn off Auto Arrange by doing the following steps below:

    1. Right click the desktop
    2. Click View
    3. Click "Auto arrange icons", check it to turn it off.

    Actually "auto arrange icons" was already off, and it keeps happening anyway. When I turn this on just to see what happens, it moves *all* icons across the desktop to the upper left; the problem I am describing happens only to files I have just renamed. So some other setting is causing this.

    May I ask, does it move while you are renaming it or right after you have renamed it?

    January 2023, 1 Desktop icons are lined up in order after renaming - Microsoft Community

    explorer is too busy to receive the "rename" notification.

    explorer recognizes "delete" and "create" instead of "rename"

    ”create" shows the icon at the vacant position or sometimes upper left corner.

    what makes explorer busy?

    1. uninstall ondrive, dropbox, icloud, google drive, 3rd party security soft
    2. use shellexview to disable shell extensions
