How do I stop renamed files from moving to upper left corner

A few months ago I switched to a new laptop, then immediately downloaded windows upgrade on it, so I don't know which factor causes this. But ever since, every time I rename a file on the desktop, windows immediately moves the file to the upper left corner of the screen, or the nearest open space to this point. This is confusing when I'm trying to keep track of and arrange my desktop files in some other way, and I have to keep moving the file back to where I want it.

    That does not work in WIN11. The tab remains unchecked and still, DOES NOT allow icon to stay where I put it. It jumps to top left of screen.

    This worked well for me......for a while. Now it no longer works even though the setting is disabled as these instructions say.

    It is a setting in Windows 11 that is automatically set to "on". To correct:

    1. Right click on your desktop
    2. Choose "Personalize"
    3. On the right hand side list, choose "Start"
    4. Turn off Show recently opened items in "Start, Jump Lists, and File Explorer"
