Windows 11--most recently opened Explorer window keeps popping up into the foreground

I have 2 computers, one desktop at home running windows 11 22H2 and one laptop at work running win 11 22H2 (clean install).

This one issue happens on both of my computers at completely random times, so i am unable to get any video out of it when it happens.

I can be working on my laptop and then suddenly explorer is in the foreground and breaks my concentration.

I can be at home gaming and stalking a few other people and then the explorer goes into the foreground and minimizes my game and gets me killed.

This is a problem i have had ever since i installed 22H2 on my computers.

My desktop is an custom built (pretty old now) i7 9900k, GTX 1080, 64GB RAM.

My laptop is an Lenovo ThinkPad L14 Gen 2 20X100HLMX (16GB RAM).

I'm having the same problem whenever I have a File Explorer window open in the background.

From my observation, this seems to happen every time OneDrive starts performing a sync.

I'm not sure if you have OneDrive installed, but if you do, see if it shows OneDrive syncing whenever FE pops into your foreground.

I'm also not sure how to fix it, but if we can help isolate the cause then maybe MS will get around to fixing it faster. It's immensely annoying.

I agree with Diplocaulus, a screen recording/vid wouldn't provide any useful info. The random Explorer window popping up from background into foreground over whatever the currant foreground window is open is just that, random. It can happen within a minute or take several minutes and doesn't seem to be related to any particular task--it pops up over Word, Excel, web browser, Outlook, etc., whatever the current active window is.

And, as has been pointed out, so far the common factors seem to be (for those who have posted their specs) the update version of Win11 and an NVIDIA graphics subsystem.

This has nothing to do with OneDrive. It has to do with windows 11 and explorer specifically. This issue occurs when you have explorer open and switch to a different active window. Explorer will override what ever active windows even when it is minimized and assert itself to the foreground. Microsoft has completely failed to address this issue going over a year now. I for one have taken action at my company to revert all 25 thousand..yes 25,000 clients from windows 11 back to windows 10 and we are looking into possible legal action. This issue alone has cost our company millions of dollars in time and productivity. .

Thought it might have been worth mentioning, I had this issue and noticed it could have been my external hard drive intermittently disconnecting and connecting. Through Control Panel > Autoplay > Untick "Use Autoplay for all media and devices" and see if that helps.
