Why does my snipping tool no longer bring up the pop up image to edit?

The correct behavior of the snipping tool in Windows 11 should be that you:

1. windows-shift-s
2. drag a box
3. you'll get a toast notification in the lower right with your screenshot and the screenshot will also be in your clipboard
4. if you click the toast notification, it will open the snipping tool where you can save to disk, highlight, or draw
5. if you don't click the toast notification, you can just paste (ctrl-v) anywhere that an image can be pasted (e.g., MS Word, Slack/Discord/Element, many websites, etc.)

If you find that the toast notification doesn't appear (step 3), then you are experiencing the bug reported here. It means the snipping tool has crashed/locked up and you'll need to manually kill it before you can take another screenshot. If you experience the above workflow, then that is the "working as intended" behavior of the snipping tool in Windows 11.

This is precisely my issue too. Yet, I'm the only person at my company with the issue. I have tried Terminate, Repair, Reset for the app, made all sorts of changes to Notifications and the Task bar. Nothing works.

This is pretty typical of my whole experience with Win11.... The processes that I had down to the fewest clicks and keystrokes in Win10 have now become extra cumbersome in Win11.

Sure would be nice if I could un-combine all my taskbar icons. I guess it doesn't matter if my workflow is hampered as long as Microsoft knows that my workspace meets their aesthetic requirements to look as close to other OS as possible.

I agree, Stu. Perhaps a feature request where users who prefer that the snip pops up for editing/saving can turn that feature back on and users who prefer to simply have it snip to the clipboard can choose that option?

This didn't work for me the first time but after a second reset it did. If you have this issue I suggest trying to reset multiple times until it works? Strange.

What are you resetting and what is the toast people refer to?

I have dexterity problems and find using windows+shift+s a problem. I keep the Snipping Tool on my Taskbar and use it from there, I want the screen with the snip to be visible so I can copy or save it straight away. The Snip & Sketch app that I use with Windows 10 did that admirably and it was faster. Why can't that be available in the store or be accessible in another way to use with Windows 11.

Windows Settings > Apps > Installed Apps > Snipping Tool > Reset

Utter garbage. Screenshot should automatically pop up after taking it... at least have it be an option for the people that got used to it in previous versions.
