Why does my snipping tool no longer bring up the pop up image to edit?

It sounds like 'Automatically copy changes' is turned off. Open Snipping Tool, click the 3-dots menu and click Settings to check that it's On:

The other option I like to have On is 'Multiple windows' so that I can have several Snipping Tool editor windows open simultaneously each time I right-click the taskbar shortcut and click 'Take a new screenshot' that I can then look through later (don't forget, for the editor window to open automatically for each screenshot taken in this way, depends on an app setting: Start ->  Settings -> Apps -> Default Apps -> Screen Snipping. Click and then click again on “Snipping tool”. Click “Screen Snipping” -> “Set default”. I know it seems illogical to not set it to 'Snipping Tool' but there it is. Unfortunately, Windows has a habit on switching the link type back to 'Snipping Tool' seemingly after a Windows 11 update which is annoying as then the Snipping Tool editor window will then not appear without a second click on the notification at the bottom right-hand corner of the display - I now know those nine mouse clicks very well - I've yet to find a quicker way to do it).

What to check/fix:

1. Notifications for Snip & Sketch
   • Go to Settings → System → Notifications & actions
   • Scroll to Snip & Sketch, make sure “Notifications” is On.
2. Focus Assist
   • Still under Notifications & actions, click Focus assist
   • Set it to Off (or add Snip & Sketch to the “Priority” list) so its toasts aren’t suppressed.

Quite correct Siwarak. Certainly the notifications should be enabled. Your steps are for Windows 10 but replacing 'Snip & Sketch' with 'Snipping Tool', the steps are almost the same for Windows 11.
But even if the notifications are disabled, when a screenshot is created with either a right-click on the taskbar icon (regardless of whether or not the editor window appears automatically - see my fix for that in my previous posting) or using WIn Key + Shift + "S" , it is still saved into the clipboard.

Perhaps Kristen was assuming that this was not happening because of the lack of a notification which says 'Screenshot copied to clipboard'. But this is just a confirmation - the image is saved to the clipboard anyway.

Just disable Do Not Disturb

System --> Notification ---> Do Not Disturb: Toggle off

I've tried all these things, and I don't even have the blinking red. Nada. Nothing added to my screenshots folder, no popup. PITA.
